Overall Purpose

Edinburgh Airport are looking for a talented and enthusiastic IT Senior Infrastructure Technician who will work within the IT Operations team. The key focus for the role will be shaping and delivering Edinburgh Airports desktop strategy going forward. In addition, it will involve supporting the Microsoft Windows environment including the desktop estate and server infrastructure. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading all hardware and software to ensure optimal infrastructure, server, workstation and end user related performance. The role will require strong interpersonal skills and be expected to engage with end users and suppliers. The role will provide pre-dominantly 3rd line support but will require someone hands-on who will be expected to cover 1st line and 2nd line when the need arises.

Key Responsibilities:

* Responsible for improving the overall desktop experience of EAL end users across the estate utilising a continual service improvement model.

* Responsible for maintaining desktop software applications and operating systems to correct patch levels, in line with policy and working with 3rd party vendors as part of clearly defined patching cycles within EAL and if required advising 3rd parties on relevant security updates.

* Responsible for the desktop deployment process, images and ongoing maintenance/updating of these via SCCM and any other tools used by EAL.

* Responsible as part of the IT Operations team for the SAM (Software Asset Management). This includes the management of collection and reporting tools such as SCCM.

* Shared responsibility for the administration and configuration of SCOM and SCCM.

* Responsible for the day to day management of the EAL Active Directory domain(s) for both Service Management (providing secure and reliable delivery of AD) and Data Management (Administrative Operations of the content) elements.

* Responsible for maintaining and administration of the on campus VMWare estate, including patching, upgrades to vCentre, ESXi and VM client tools.

* Responsible for security on desktops and server architecture and working with the Head of Architecture and Security to identify and implement any security recommendations

* Security hardening of devices and servers as required.

* Provide support to the business in diagnosing and quickly resolve a wide range of Windows and 3rd party applications to minimise downtime in conjunction with Vendors.

* Provide technical inputs, assurance and guidance to EAL IT projects where appropriate. Including collaboration in design, implementation, change and support handover.

* Provide support and guidance to the EAL Service Desk team. Mentoring.

* As part of the IT Operations team provide next level support to incidents, problems, and change as part of the business as usual.

* Ability to escalate promptly where required. Deal with any priority incidents in a timely manner ensuring SLAs are not breached.

* Participate in an on-call escalation rota for operations

Person Specification:

Required Skills:

* Technical, analytical, interpersonal and organization skills required.

* Excellent working knowledge of up-to-date desktop applications in the Microsoft stack.

* Solid knowledge of Windows 7810, Windows 2[Telephone number removed]

* Ability to liaise with 3rd Party Vendors

* Experience of working with virtualisation technology.

* End-point antivirus management.

* Strong and demonstrable abilities in SCCM/SCOM.

* Experience supporting Apple products, e.g. IPhone’s and IPad’s

* Experience of managing infrastructure in an Azure, AWS or comparable cloud based environment.

* Experience of managing a server / desktop / device infrastructure estate

* Ability to communicate in an understandable, polite and friendly manner, both written and verbal.

* Ability to work well with others, as well as independently.

* Attention to detail.

* Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a 24x7 environment.

* Excellent documentation skills.

* Strong problem solving abilities.

* Solid understanding of the network technologies stack, e.g. TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLan’s

Qualifications and Experience:

Education and Training:

* Relevant experience as detailed below

* Essential: MCP, VCA

* Desirable: MCSE, MCSA, SCCM, SCOM, VCP

* Desirable: ITIL V3 Foundation

Experience:

* Between 4 - 5 years’ experience in a similar role with over 7 years’ experience in an IT environment.

* Change management experience in a fast paced environment

* Experience required

* Expert in Active Directory

* Expert in Microsoft System Centre Suite

* Experience of VMWare VCentre and Veeam backup technologies
