Real-Time Software Engineers - Cutting Edge Defence projects - Junior to Principal

Location: Edinburgh

As a leading developer of cutting edge defence technology projects my client are looking for a number of experienced Senior Software Engineers, at all levels, to strengthen their current highly skilled teams, developing embedded real time software for a number of cutting edge development programmes.

Software development will involve creation of new design components and reuse of existing software design architecture and code to introduce new and enhanced functionality aimed primarily at aircraft platforms.

The software teams operate closely with Systems, Hardware and Firmware engineers, so, successful applicants will immediately gain the experience of working in cross discipline development teams.

Depending on the level of experience, the candidate may also be required to supervise a small team of engineers.

The functionality provided by the software is extensive and varied, such as Radar control and mode selection, target tracking, Signal Processing mode algorithms, surveillance systems, sensing technology, hardware interfacing etc, so experience of developing sophisticated software in any of these domains would be at a premium.

The successful candidates will be part of the software team and will be involved in the specification, design and implementation of software. This will require an involvement at all stages of the formal software lifecycle from requirements definition through to implementation, integration with hardware, and formal test. The candidate may have supervisory responsibilities for a small number of engineers, depending on experience.

Essential Skills

Degree in Software Engineering or related (e.g. Mathematics, Physics, Electronics)

Competent C/C++ real-time software developer

Good communication skills

Self-motivated

Able to work in a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable Skills

Experience of OOD/UML Design Methodology

Experience of Matlab toolset

Knowledge of DOORS, Rhapsody, Dimensions tools

Familiarity with VxWorks RTOS, Workbench, Vectorcast and QAC is desirable

Due to the nature of our clients work, applicants must be eligible for or currently have security clearance.
