The UK’s tax authority, HM Revenue & Customs, is changing. The Government has invested almost £1 billion in Enforcement & Compliance activity, with the aim of collecting £22 billion a year in additional tax revenue by the end of the current tax year. Expanding amounts of data and improvements in data processing mean it’s a very exciting time for us. And if you have skills in SAS Enterprise Guide or similar, and 2 years data analytics experience in a work or research environment, it could be for you too.

As one of our Senior Data Analytics Officers, you’ll be gathering and analysing information from within and outside the UK, and helping us focus on people who deliberately target the tax system through fraud, evasion and avoidance. Using our award-winning Connect system, you’ll play a pivotal role by predicting patterns of behaviour, prioritising risks, identifying cases for interventions, and helping us understand emerging trends.

You’ll also direct other people’s work, lead on the development of complex and high profile projects of national and international significance, and identify and share best practice, tools, techniques and ways of working across HMRC and its partners.

Together with a 2:2 in a numerate degree, or a numerate post-graduate qualification, you’ll have a high level of technical ability in the use of analytical tools and software like SAS Enterprise Guide. You’ll have at least 2 years work experience where data analysis was a significant component of the work, including using a range of tools to deliver complex analytical projects using large data sets.

In terms of personal skills, you’ll be experienced in working with stakeholders to identify and clarify the overall scope and detailed requirements of analytical work, and you’ll be accustomed to balancing conflicting demands, producing progress reports and delivering to tight deadlines.

In return, you can look forward to the opportunity to develop through a tailored specialist professional programme of training. We believe in valuing you and recognising your performance. We also offer attractive pension arrangements and promote a healthy work life balance, including flexible working.
