Our client, a globally recognised brand, are currently recruiting for a DB2 DBA for an 3 month contract based in London.
This will be a senior consultant role requiring interface with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Review user requirements and high level design documents
* Liaise with UNIX and Storage Administrators to tune the virtualised infrastructure
* Design and implement a recovery and DR strategy
* Deploy DBA housekeeping scripts and assist ETL developers in this regard
* First point of contact in the group for all issues pertaining to the new database infrastructure
* Business as usual tasks such as migrating database changes into production systems
* Installation, upgrades and fixing any problems related to the database
* Monitoring, pro-active maintenance and performance tuning of the databases
* Produce documentation to assist with callout support and skills training
* Ensure colleagues are kept informed of relevant changes and incidents, in an appropriate timely manner
* Be able to recognise issues that warrant escalation within the DBA group
Experience as a DBA working with DB2 LUW (v8, v9.1, v9.5 and v9.7)
* General administration of DB2 LUW databases
* Installing, patching and upgrading DB2 databases
* Working with application teams to promote changes to pre-prod and production environments
* Resolving database performance problems
* Raise and gather diagnostics for IBM service requests and handle system down scenarios
* Work on systems that use disk mirroring as part of their DR solution
* Configured DB2 to backup and log archive using dual site TSM
* Supported Infosphere Warehouse databases using DPF and Balanced Warehouse Best Practices
* Knowledge of DB2 clients / gateways
* General Unix (AIX) knowledge
* Practical experience of using v9.7 features
* Implemented a DB2 auditing solution (native or otherwise)
* Unix scripting skills in Korn Shell
* Appreciation of how to tune DB2 in a virtualised AIX / storage environment
* Developed solutions that meet PCI/DPA security standards
* Configured, monitored and tuned WLM

* IBM Performance Expert / Optim Performance Manager
* Control Centre
* IBM Data Studio 3.1 - change management features
* IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Databases
* IBM Merge Backup tool
* Auditing tools
* Monitoring and Alerting tools

* Judgement & Reliability - A professional, positive approach to all aspects of work, able to keep calm and focussed under pressure, as well as ensuring line management are kept informed
* Documentation - Excellent documentation skills to ensure knowledge is retained within the team
