Our client requires a Wintel Specialist for an initial 6 month contract based in Glasgow.
Generic support role:
* Set-up of application & ownership of environment.
* Deployment of custom code and data
* Application maintenance and housekeeping
* Technical Shakedown
* Project Support
* Build and Configure
* Back-up and restore
* Continuous Improvement
* Report weekly metrics and manage timescales
* Environment user access management
* Environment administration
* Review project inputs
* Environment defect resolution (1st Level)
* Identification and escalation of risks and issues
* Set up and Action (Emerald) CB tool tasks for the deployment of Projects and maintenance of the Environment services environments.
* Maintain the access scripts (RACF groups) for Testing Services
Must have skills:
* Primary : Windows / Wintel Server Administration ( 2002 - 12)
* Primary : SQL Server admin ( 2005 - 12)
* Secondary : Oracle SQL Knowledge, IIS , Active Directory services exposure, MS SQL scripts, VB scripts or Power shell scripts / SCOM monitoring tool exposure
Windows
* Security/permissions
* Use and interpretation of information/diagnostic tools such as:
* event log
* performance monitor (perfmon)
* network monitor (netmon)
* process monitor (procmon)
* windiff
* Behaviour of processes/services
* Server configuration e.g. environment variables, component services, security certificates etc
* Knowledge and use of third-party analysis tools such as Fiddler useful.
SQL Server (esp. 2005)
* Backup/restore
* Maintenance plans
* Profiling, Configuration, Replication
* Security, Performance analysis/tuning
* Log analysis
* Familiarity with SQL Server and client tools such as Management Studio, Profiler, Configuration Manager.
MS .Net 1.1-3.5
* .Net Frameworks - how they can be configured, how different versions interact and so on
* How to install/configure assemblies in the GAC
* Some knowledge of C#/ASP.NET programming/app configuration helpful, both in business logic and UI aspects
* Some understanding of protocols such as HTTP (especially)/TCP in the context of .Net application development very useful
* An understanding of asynchronous web services
* Ability to analyse C# code also useful
* Knowledge of how apps connect to databases
IIS
* Setup/administration - sites, virtual directories, application pools etc
* Security/SSL/certificates
* IIS log interpretation, Configuration
* An understanding of how IIS actually serves content, HTTP response codes and what they can mean.
Code deployment
* Familiarity with deploying Windows applications both from installers and as individual components;
* Familiarity with third-party and NAG deployment processes
* Thoroughness with respect to good practices e.g. ensuring backups are taken, ensuring configurations are up to date, registering services etc. There are a number of utilities available to assist with these tasks.
* Ability to install, run and diagnose the data import code (again, SQL scripts and procedures will be available to assist with this)
* Ability to interpret and overcome problems with deployments
