Internal Systems Developer (Perl)
With our client’s growth rate now exceeding 40% per annum, they have now created a new development position at their Leeds office. The role is to take the internal systems forward; to serve the growing needs of both our internal users at Leeds, Southampton and Charlotte NC, as well as those of our worldwide network of more than 400 reseller partners.
The primary system covered by this role is "PartnerNet". Fully developed in-house with Perl/ DBI/ MySQL, PartnerNet provides us with a raft of facilities including software licensing, order processing and customer/ partner management.
Job Tasks:
·Determine requirements / spec for PartnerNet and other systems
·Develop new functionality for existing systems, and implement new ones
·Maintain existing functionality and fix bugs in Internal Information Systems
·Provide end-user support to colleagues using internal systems
·Manipulate data to produce ad-hoc reports and/ or alterations
·Assist in systems administration of both internal and external Linux servers
·Liaise with product development team in Southampton
·Ensure continuous operation by working with System/ ISP staff
·Deliver training to staff, customers and reseller partners where required
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
·Perl 5 web development
·MySQL administration and relational database design
·Linux administration/ development
·Some knowledge or experience of formal systems design and specification
·AJAX/ JavaScript and DHTML
·Ability to learn new skills and adapt to new systems quickly
·Experience in Virtual technology
Desirable:
Other relevant language skills, include PHP, BASH
Other relevant database experience includes Postgres
Strong User Interface design experience
Version control experience, especially Git/ CVS
Degree level software engineering would be useful, although no level of formal training is explicitly required
