Business Analyst - University

Working for a high end academic institute as part of the IT Project Team and reporting to a Project Manager the Business Analyst (BA) will primarily undertake business analysis and IT project work as assigned and within a project management framework based on Prince2.

The BA will make a major contribution to ensuring projects are successfully delivered, are on time and within budget. The BA may be assigned one or more projects depending on the size, complexity, stage and effort required by the projects. The post holder may be required to work on any of the project stages e.g. investigation of need, project initiation, business analysis, process analysis, requirements specification, procurement, evaluation & selection, implementation, testing etc. Depending on the project the work content may be strongly process/organisational development oriented and/or technology solution implementation oriented. The post holder needs to be comfortable in working in these different areas.

The introduction of IT projects and associated processes present far-reaching, complex issues not only of software implementation but also of facilitating changes to working practices and processes throughout the College in order to fully realise the benefits of strategic investment. Both academic and non-academic departments will be significantly affected in the way work is organised and performed. The College's future competitiveness depends upon successful delivery of the projects.

The Business Analyst may work on projects with budgets that can range in size from £thousands to £millions. Working within project teams led by a Project Manager, the Business Analyst has the prime responsibility for analysing processes and developing and implementing new IT systems and business process. The Business Analyst will assist in the smooth implementation of major change projects which will encompass complicated technical and sensitive HR issues. The post holder will require a sensitive, clear and logical approach as the success of projects will be judged by how well the College's processes support its strategic vision. It is essential that the right products and processes are in place to underpin the University as a major competitive force in the HEI market.
