Our client, an online gaming and betting company, is currently recruiting for a Senior Manager (Databases and Storage) to join their team in West London, initially on a 6 month contract.

The Team

The Database and Storage teams, as part of the IT Hosting Services team, supports production, pre-production, regulatory, development and performance environments. The list of technologies supported includes (but is not limited to) Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server and Shareplex on the Database side, and NetApp, PureStorage, NetBackup and Brocade switches on the Storage side.

Role Summary

Reporting into the Head of Hosting Services, we require an energetic, flexible, highly self-motivated Database and Storage manager to manage multiple teams of highly skilled engineers, help maintain and support the critical database and storage estate and support delivery teams from various areas within the business.

Key Responsibilities

* Work closely with the key business customers, stakeholders, external partners and all groups within the IT and Technology organisation to implement, evolve, support and own the database and storage components to appropriate quality standards, within the overall infrastructure.

* Own the software lifecycle and be responsible for implementing maintenance plans and schedules to ensure the software supported by the Database and Storage teams stay up to date.

* Manage all technical resources and capacity plans within budget and project schedule.

* Manage 3rd party services closely ensuring the service received exceeds expectations.

* Understand intimately the dependencies between requests and how they combine to deliver service to the end consumer and to the business

* Ensure the day to day delivery of the backlog in line with enterprise integration, architecture and priorities

* Serve as liaison between technical teams and key stakeholder(s)

* Understand and balance commercial needs against technical requirements and capabilities

* Easily recognize system and process deficiencies and implement effective solutions

* Foster a sense of urgency to deliver results at pace

* Actively measure and review the Productivity, Quality and Duration of delivery, taking prompt corrective action where necessary

Essential Skills & Experience

* Proven track record of leading and managing teams responsible for supporting critical 24x7 systems in an organisation where data is one of the most valuable assets

* Strong performance management background, able to demonstrate real world experiences in a clear and concise manner

* Using agile or Kanban-type methods for delivery of tasks or projects

* Working at pace - able to demonstrate where multiple high priority tasks were delivered successfully end to end while maintaining the BAU stream

* Ensure projects deadlines are met while being cognisant of individual's development needs

* Demonstrable experience of delivering within a flexible environment where priorities can change depending on business needs

* Demonstrable experience in designing new solutions not necessarily purely Database or Storage related, working across multiple teams

* Demonstrable experience in delivering automation and self-service solutions

* Demonstrable experience in dealing with multiple 3rd parties, licensing and escalations

* Demonstrable experience in incident management, dealing efficiently with business communications whilst providing technical guidance to engineers

* Hands on experience with Database and Storage technologies
