My South Edinburgh client is seeking a strong Android Developer with an open mind, focussed on creative, simple and robust software development.

My client is a technology company - combining creativity and innovation with technical know-how to create positive change for IT enterprises - with some of the world's best known companies as clients.

They are seeking a number of experienced Front End Developers to work on the development and enhancement of the existing product.

We are looking for a talented Developer or Senior Developer with a solid understanding of how to apply pragmatic software engineering practises to the production of high quality and robust applications. Also an individual who is capable of taking account of new information or changed circumstances in a fast moving project environment and acting accordingly.

Responsibilities include:

* Customer requirements gathering and system analysis

* Identifying and researching solutions for client requirements, and communicating clearly with the team and customers regarding the proposed solution.

* Scoping, estimating, design, build, test and implementation and maintenance of Android-based applications

Essential skills which are critical to the role:

* 4+ years hands on Java and/or Android experience in a professional environment

* Published examples of mobile applications on the Google play

* Experience working with remote data via REST and JSON.

* Solid understanding of the Android application framework and a strong Java background. A thorough understanding of Android components (Activities, Services, Intents, etc.) security and permissions and multi-threaded programming.

* Experience with third-party libraries and APIs

* Deliver across the entire app life cycle, including concept design, build, deploy, test, release to Play Store.

* Knowledge of modern version control systems (ideally SVN and Mercurial)

Desirable (but not essential) skills and experience:

* Experience with building Tablets specific UIs

* Capable to create Unit-test code for robustness, including edge cases, usability and general reliability.

* Development of Mobile applications on other platforms such as iOS, Windows phone

* Experience of developing with the Unity 3D engine

* Windows C# .NET windows Desktop application development
