Your role

Helping to meet the growing demand for data security and information management expertise, the post holder will help determine the strategy and ongoing direction of Telecoms and Communications Service Provider audits.

Our approach utilises proactive engagement, auditing and assessment, and stakeholder engagement You will establish and maintain key relationships within government and across the telecommunications sector and oversee the development of the audit methodology.

The Group Manager will establish and lead a team responsible for providing technical and information security expertise to the Good Practice - Communications Group audit function. This will support the organisations work as a regulator in this area by ensuring the ICO develops a pragmatic but robust strategy and methodology.

Own and deliver a programme of audit work with Telecoms and Communication Service Providers, ensuring the work is delivered to time and budget.

Liaise closely with internal and external stakeholders including ICO Policy (Group Manager Technology), Strategic Liaison and Senior Managers within Telecoms and Communications service Providers, to ensure the ICO audit team remains up to date with sector technological developments, EU initiatives and guidance.

Skills you’ll need

You will have good experience of configuring, managing or auditing ISMS within ISO 27001, Cobit or similar frameworks as part of an IT, Information Governance, internal or external audit team.

You’ll have the ability to identify potential opportunities to engage and educate individual organisations or entire sectors. So, you must be persuasive, professional and a talented project manager with experience of auditing large organisations. Some national travel to attend stakeholder meetings may be required.

You will have strong interpersonal skills including the ability to build and maintain good working relationships at all levels, internally and externally. You’ll also have the confidence and ability to deliver training internally where required and/or presentations to internal and external audiences.

Ideally with or willing to study towards a recognised professional qualification, you should also be an excellent communicator with the ability to work with a matrix management system. You’ll have experience of leading and managing people.
