A Systems Technician is required to join a successful Edinburgh-based ticketing software, services and consultancy business, providing solutions to festivals, events, venues and ticket agencies. They are the ticketing solution that drives the largest arts festival in the world as well as other UK and International events.

They use a wide range of innovative technologies that provide the best solutions for event sales, data capture and distribution. This role is to work with the Systems Administration team to provide the technical platform for their market-leading technology. This role will introduce you to a wide range of both exciting new technologies, as well as more mature platforms such as Java Enterprise Edition.

Specific responsibilities of the post include:

- Maintenance of between 60 and 150 Linux hosts depending on client activity.

- Actively monitor systems to identify issues, work with technologies or processes to improve performance or mitigate risk.

- Maintain documentation of the current systems environment and communicate change to the environment to the team.

- Participate in monitoring and recording of the PCI:DSS regime of the company and key customers.

- Participate in evening and weekend on-call rota to ensure 24/7: 365 support coverage.

- Participate in the configuration, complete the installation and maintain a city wide box office system and network during July and August.

- Extending the capabilities of their in-house developed embedded Linux network appliance.

- Assist the Systems Administration team with installation and upgrade of internal and client systems in accordance with the implementation plan

- Assist with server maintenance including:installation, configuration and build of Virtual Machines

- Assist with the technical installation and provide technical guidance to 1st line support for ticketing software and hardware installations

- Technical support of server side applications including: mail servers, phone systems, file servers, support systems and application &server monitoring systems

- Assist client IT resources

- Provide 2nd and 3rd line technical support to the support team

Essential Skills

- Linux Systems Administration with Commercial experience, preferably CentOS / RedHat Enterprise Linux and/or Debian.

- Passion for technology and a desire for learning as well as teaching others.

- Ability to plan work and pro-actively manage systems to enable the company's growth, securely and efficiently.

- Ability to use own initiative to creatively solve problems.

- Experience with performance and availability monitoring (for example: Nagios, Cacti, RHQ or Smokeping).

- An ability to communicate with both technical & non-technical colleagues and customers.

- Ability to investigate issues, identify causes of problems and implement strategies to improve the systems environment and prevent recurring issues.

- Shell scripting skills (Bash / PHP).

- Windows server administration

- Basic routing

- Basic firewalling

- DNS & DHCP
