Our client requires an experienced Technical Lead for an initial 6 month contract based in London with sporadic travel to Cambridge and Birmingham.
The ideal candidate must have the following:
The key skills for this role are
General knowledge of Microsoft desktop and server products, operational experience of Vmware
General knowledge of peripherals including desktops, servers, printers, white boards, audio-visual equipment, etc
Good communicator, ability to engage and communicate with end users and technicians
Ability to coordinate activities with third-party IT suppliers
Deliver to tight deadlines
Flexibility to respond to any IT issue
Manage Service Desk Queues and Technicians
Be a "Team Player"
The Technical Lead will be responsible for the day to day running of the client's IT systems in London including:
Routine management and configuration of infrastructure
Management of the two London technicians
Providing support to Birmingham and Cambridge on-site IT assistants
Managing the configuration and repair of all Birmingham and Cambridge devices (on the basis that these are returned to London whenever there is a fault or issue)
Stock control and ordering of consumables for all sites
Managing refresh cycle of devices (PCs etc)
Assisting with service desk calls as and when required, e.g. to cover for one of the technicians when on leave
Ensuring service desk calls are closed down in acceptable time frames
Managing scheduled down time
Managing backup
Assisting with user-set up, permissions, etc
Adding and removing users for the Mitel IP phone systems
Assistance with the specification and procurement for devices for new and refurbished classrooms
Outside of term time, providing technical support and effort to implement new and replacement devices and other infrastructure in classrooms
Working with the Managed WAN service provider to ensure that the WAN is running to specification
Other duties commensurate with the role of the Senior "Business as Usual" Technician in the organisation
Working hours are between 08:00 and 18:30 and the Technical Lead will be expected to work 7.5 hours day within these hours. It may be necessary from time to time to fix the hours (i.e. to mandate a start at 08:00 or a finish at 18:30) depending on work cycles within the client site.
The Technical Lead will be expected to logon to systems remotely from home occasionally (probably no more than two or three times per month), e.g. to reboot servers. A company laptop will be provided but the Technical Lead will be expected to provide broadband connectivity. Time off in lieu will be granted for such activities.
