The highest profile, most complex surface infrastructure work in the UK. The widest range of responsibilities. And the knowledge that you keep a world city moving for 8.6 million people. That’s what’s on offer when you join the Projects and Programmes Directorate (PPD) at Transport for London.

PPD is a 300-strong centre of excellence. We have 80 showcase projects currently live - all part of a 10-year, £4 billion investment in the capital’s surface transport system. Everything from the Silvertown Tunnel to the Cycle Superhighway, the Elephant & Castle gyratory transformation to the Hammersmith Flyover refurbishment.

Currently, we’re looking for a highly articulate and commercially aware Programme Controls Manager to join our Portfolio Office team in this high profile role. A rare opportunity to be the ‘go-to’ person for the Head of Portfolio Office and Head of Project Delivery for projects and programmes within Surface Transport, you’ll control around 30 c. £250m projects, within our Highways Infrastructure, Transport Services & Customer Operations and Technology and Systems Directorates.

In addition, you’ll ensure the implementation of best practice project governance and controls within your assigned portfolio of projects. Making sure all work is seamlessly integrated with other areas of PPD and Surface Transport and delivered on time, or early and on, or under budget will be important too. And, when it comes to managing the delivery of a defined set of project control assurance and assistance services or providing senior management with a portfolio level view of projects progress, risks, issues, opportunities and challenges, again, we’ll rely on you.

To succeed, you’ll need a recognised project management qualification and a degree or equivalent, ideally in Civil Engineering or a Technology discipline. We’ll also be looking for In-depth delivery experience gained working on large and challenging portfolios in programme management/project support offices, preferably in a similar sector. Extensive knowledge of the range of project controls processes and planning tools (e.g. MS Project) and best practice models (P3M3/CMMI) is essential. Used to managing a team and coaching/mentoring project staff, you also have the confidence, credibility and resilience to stand up to the demands for accurate project updates and scrutiny about deliverables from Directors. What’s more, you have the analytical skills it takes to understand multiple project metrics and challenge project teams to progress towards meeting project deliverables and Service Level Agreements.

At TfL we support all our people to make the very most of their talent and potential. You will enjoy huge scope to progress - both personally and professionally - at the heart of an innovative and inclusive organisation.

You can also look forward to a unique range of benefits. These vary according to the business area and role, but may include final salary pension scheme; free travel for you and a nominated partner/family member on the TfL network; a 75% discount on National Rail Season Ticket and interest-free loan; Minimum of 29 days’ annual leave plus public holidays; Private healthcare discounted scheme - optional; Tax-efficient childcare payments; Tax-efficient cycle-to-work programme; Retail, health, leisure and travel offers including discounted Eurostar travel

Closing date: Sunday 2nd August 2015.

We aspire to be as diverse as the city we serve, and we welcome applications from all sections of the community.
