My well known support client based just outside of Glasgow is looking for a 3rd line Network Technician who will be responsible for the design, testing, implementation, documentation, and support for the Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) equipment and functionality. This is an excellent opportunity to join a global organisation in an exciting time of transition for the company.

You will be Working within the 3rd line team to log and track all user issues and problems. If required you can escalate calls to the next level if a solution is not found. You will be expected to work with PC Technicians on a 1st and 2nd line capacity to ensure every issue is resolved.

In your role you will have the opportunity to evaluate technician workloads and recommend changes to maximize site coverage.

Primary Responsibilities in the role

* Install, support and maintain hardware and software infrastructure according to best practices,

* Including routers, aggregators, switches, Wi-Fi controllers, and firewalls.

* Perform network security design and integration.

* Diagnose problems and solve issues, often under time constraints.

* Provide network and host based security, incident response, firewall and VPN management and administration.

* Assist in the development of guidelines and procedures for administration and security best practices. Provide network documentation.

* Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.

* Monitor network usage, anticipate problems and suggest solutions.

* Work closely with colleagues to meet team goals and improve processes and practices.

Required Experience

* Cisco CCNP certification.

* 5+ years of expertise in implementing, administering, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices, including: firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access points and controllers, and monitoring applications.

* Intermediate to expert understanding of firewall configuration and maintenance, experience with PaloAlto equipment preferred.

* Intermediate to expert with configuration, installation, troubleshooting, and supporting of Networking equipment, Wireless (WiFi) equipment, Computers, Servers and peripherals.

* Comfortable documenting and explaining network topologies, Understand and diagram existing network, Diagram, explain and plan for future upgrades.

* Experience deploying and/or maintaining an enterprise Wi-Fi network

* Intermediate to expert with 802.1q VLANs and working within industry best practices.

* General patch cable termination capabilities (Cat5e / Cat6).

* Experience building and maintaining fiber optic networks.

* Experience maintaining an enterprise-level infrastructure, including fiber optic and wireless using, Cisco, PaloAlto and HP technologies.

* Ability to engineer, build, and test wireless network for optimum coverage and reliability.

* General understanding of VoIP equipment and operation.

* Powering the phone.

* Getting voice and data networks to a phone.

* Able to work with a VoIP provider to deploy and support.

* Knowledgeable in application transport and network infrastructure protocols (SSL/TLS, DNS, DHCP, WINS, NTP, FTP, HTTP, SMTP, CIFS, LDAP, and Microsoft AD), and possess an understanding of how to support these applications / protocols when accessed through VPN and firewall appliances.

Experience in the following would be advantageous

* Design, document, implement, and support Microsoft Exchange and clients.

* Design, document, implement, and support Microsoft SQL servers and SQL server resources.

* Design, document, implement, and support Microsoft SCCM desktop management systems and clients.

* Provide support for Microsoft Backoffice Products, including Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Internet Information Server, and Microsoft SMS.
