Our client, a leading IT Outsourcing company, is recruiting for a Unix Engineer to join their team for an initial 3 month contract based in Erskine.

Key Responsibilities

* Regularly leads in the technical assessment and delivery of specific technical solutions to the customer.

* Frequently contributes to the development of new ideas/methods

* Owns and manages knowledge sharing within a community (e.g. team, practice, or project)

* Ensures team members support knowledge sharing and re-use requirements of project.

* Contributes significant knowledge to job family community.

* Engages in technical problem solving across multiple technologies; often needs to develop new methods to apply to the situation.

* Presents at multi-customer technology conferences.

Knowledge and Skills

* Has sufficient depth and breadth of technical knowledge to design and scope multiple deliverables across a number of technologies with an emphasis on multiple flavours of UNIX and Linux Platforms.

* Demonstrates a broad knowledge of Enterprise standard configuration management tools in order to properly manage complex integration efforts.

* Ability to work in a multi-technology environment with the ability to diagnose complex technical problems to their root cause. In addition to troubleshooting skills and consulting skills, has ability to summarise prognosis and impact at practice lead level.

* Ability to develop solutions that enhance the availability, performance, maintainability and agility of a particular customer's enterprise. Has contributed to the design and application of new tools.

* Demonstrates an expert level of understanding of multiple flavours of UNIX and Linux operating systems including Hardware assessment and specification.

* Demonstrates an expert level of understanding of backup solutions, configuration and optimisation.

* Demonstrates expert level of developing/debugging shell scripts csh/ksh/bash/perl

* Expert level of understanding with Networking services NIS/NIS+/DNS/TCPIP LDAP, Active Directory Integration, Samba, Kerberos, Apache.

* High level of experience in Storage connectivity technologies, SAN, iSCSI

* Holds Oracle Certified Professional or Linux Equivalent qualifications in relevant Operating system disciplines.
