Summary

At the National Trust, we undertake some amazing projects. From conservation and interpretation to visitor facilities, renewable energy to landscape management, ground-breaking partnerships to commercial investment (and everything in between), projects are at the heart of what we do. The Project Support Office has a vital role to play in helping us choose the right projects and deliver them in the best possible way. Joining us as a Project Support Officer, you’ll use your technical knowledge, project management experience and influencing skills to help our people deliver projects to the best of their ability.

What it's like to work here

We’re the nation’s largest landowner, a visitor attraction and a major retailer; we’re its most extensive museum and one of its biggest catering operations. Our core values are at the heart of everything that we do and every project we deliver supports our wonderful places. You’ll work hard but you’ll be trusted to do your job well and supported in your development; you’ll meet some fascinating people, get to know our ground-breaking projects and discover some inspiring buildings and breath-taking countryside along the way.

What you'll be doing

The work of the Project Support Office is varied, challenging and rewarding, and few days are the same. You’ll use your knowledge and experience of using project management tools, techniques and processes to help and advise our people to deliver projects to a consistently high standard. But it’s more than that: you’ll be proactive, understanding how we’re doing and working with others to help us get better. You’ll be responsible for our project guidance, templates and documentation, and you’ll help our projects to review their achievements and share their lessons. You’ll strive to make sure that project governance works at all levels, from the project board of our smallest projects all the way through to Executive oversight. As part of a small team you’ll find ways to reach across a large organisation, using your influencing and facilitation skills to turn complex project management principles into clear solutions and communicate them in the right tone of voice to a varied audience.

Please read the full role profile, attached to the end of this advert. Please note: internally this role will be known as Project Support Analyst.

Who we're looking for

You’re a project professional with a track record of working with projects to deliver success. You know your stuff, really understanding project tools, templates, techniques and frameworks. You’ll know what best practice looks and feels like and want to get behind the headlines to find out what’s really going on. You’re great with people, able to reach out to different audiences in different ways and with experience of influencing others. You’re well organised and proactive, happy to get stuck into the detail but you know when to step back and look at the wider picture. Above all, you’re passionate about what the National Trust does, and understand that in an organisation like ours how you say something is as important as what you say. And all the time you’ll be an advocate for best practice. You’ll be based at the head offices of the National Trust, but you’ll be comfortable travelling to meet colleagues and see projects at our beautiful properties across the Trust, so you’ll need a full, clean UK driving licence.
