The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) has the responsibility for the management of property, infrastructure and related services to ensure strategic management of the Defence Estate as a whole, optimising investment and, critically, supporting military capability to the best effect.

The Chief Information and Process Office (CIO) area within DIO Head Office is responsible for the delivery, management and assurance of all IT/IS strategies, policies, standards and services that are applicable to the DIO. CIO has four key pillars; Requirements and Customer Service Team, Design and Transition Team, Delivery and Operations Team and Security and Assurance Team.

The post requires ownership and management of phases of the ‘release management lifecycle’ The post holder will be responsible for implementing and managing release processes across multiple environments.

Working on software development projects, the post holder will support developers and testers as they create development and test environments. The post incumbent will also work closely with the architecture group to improve the software engineering processes and practices associated with continuously building and updating software and environments.

The Main Job Requirements are:

Project Management Skills with an emphasis on Technology

Monitor and track progress to ensure application releases are delivered to meet programme timelines

Weekly release reporting

Work collaboratively with developers to understand impacts of code and configuration updates

Continually work towards making improvements to the release management process

Lead and co-ordinate ‘Go-Live’ and post-implementation activities

Actively participate in regular CAB (Change Advisory Board) to assess and impact change requests

Maintain a release repository and manage key product information such as build and release procedures, dependencies and notification lists

Writing of options papers etc. that add further insight and thought in the release management area.
