Software Developer required for a 1 month contract (likely to extend) based in Aberdeen.

Working for a large, well-established Oil & Gas organisation, you will be reporting in to the Head of Geological Research within the research and development function to ensure the company remains at the forefront of emerging technology within its field. You will contribute to the effective performance of Geosciences Research activities within the Company.

Key responsibilities:

*Lead role in code development and maintenance of projects from scratch, building on GRC applications and integrating existing tools (Total in-house: Sismage, T-StoRM - Commercial softwares: Petrel Oceans, gOcad).

*Responsible for different GRC Data Management tasks: Sismage/ T-StoRM projects, student's directories, Linux file system, in close relation with company's Information Service (IS) department.

*Responsible for different GRC system administration tasks: Linux environment, Sismage/ T-StoRM environments, software development environment, software license administration, in close relation with IS.

*Improve existing codes and perform bug fixing as appropriate.

*Define and delineate GRC system requirements; propose or develop appropriate solutions and implement agreed modifications as directed, within timescales agreed and to an acceptable standard

*Train/ coach/ mentor team colleagues/students in IT environment, software development and best practices.

*Take initiative in the development of solutions within existing standards & procedures.

For this role you need to have previous experience of working within a Software Developer position, ideally within a Geosciences research field. You need to have a MSc of PhD in computer sciences with a familiarity of geoscience disciplines and good expertise in the field of scientific programming and visualisation e.g. C++, Java. Experience of UNIX, LINUX and Windows operating systems is also required. This position is to start ASAP. Day rates are negotiable but likely to be within the region of £400 - £650 per day ltd/umbrella depending on your level of experience.
