Network and Firewall Engineer - London - £50k+
As a member of the Enterprise Programs team, you will become part of an elite engineering team responsible for providing network and firewall designs, implementing new technology and infrastructure, and providing ongoing operational support. Specifically, you will conduct high-level network and security design, capacity planning, discovery, implementation, service transition and operations support in one of the largest global network environments on the planet. You will also be responsible for managing tasks, dates and status updates with your project manager.
Essential Functions
- Design, document, and implement network and firewall solutions.
- Perform operational support as a technical escalation resource within the team.
- Document Design/Implementation proposals for peer and security review.
- Work with project managers for tasks related to project activities.
Education
Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or Engineering Discipline
Vocation School Completion in Network/Security/Computer Technology
Experience/Background
3+ Years
Accreditation/Certifications
Cisco CCNP Route Switch and ASA Certifications - Highly Desired
Checkpoint certifications a huge plus
ITIL certification is a bonus
Linux experience is a plus
CCIE is a plus
Previous Job Experience
Experience using telnet and ssh (putty or other) and management platforms to access Cisco routers and firewalls.
Configuring BGP and route tagging in a Multi-VRF environment preferred
Complete understanding of EIGRP and managing routing in an enterprise environment.
Building a firewall policy from general business requirements in an interactive Q&A process.
Understanding an Enterprise change control process as well as ITIL Methodology
Experience using network analysis, management and performance monitoring tools to plan for growth, diagnose problems and determining traffic patterns.
Previous experience planning implementations, building comprehensive test plans, troubleshooting methodology, and Cisco design framework.
Special Knowledge/Skills
Initiative and Willingness to learn are keys to success in this position.
Expert knowledge of TCP/IP v4
Working knowledge of network and server bandwidth management technologies.
Expert knowledge of the configuration and maintenance of routers, hubs, bridges, and switches.
Preferable expert knowledge of xT1, OCx, Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet other bandwidth link specifications.
Expert knowledge of statefully inspecting firewalls
Special consideration given to the ability to script and use automation to perform tasks
