SGN is the UK's second largest gas distribution company, operating two of the UK’s largest gas networks across Scotland and Southern England. Our primary focus is to maintain the safe, reliable and efficient delivery of gas to customers in 5.8 million homes and businesses.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Lead Data Architect and a Data Architect reporting to the Company MI & Data Manager. These positions will attract a personal contract, commensurate with skills and experience.

As a Lead Data Architect you will be required to lead a developing data architect team, therefore staff management experience is essential. You will be expected to input into the corporate data strategy as well as define, own and deliver against the corporate data roadmaps, standards and models. You will also need to engage in and inform the enterprise information & data requirements and solutions, as well as at specific project/business initiatives to support the business strategic roadmaps and goals.

These positions require a strong level of technical competence as well as the ability to engage with a broad spectrum of business and technical stakeholders. Working with IT teams, you will inform, educate and enforce data management and governance "best practice" using your demonstrable and credible experience to ensure a cohesive solution is delivered with Cost and Value benefits back to the business.

As with many organisations, the roles will require working with traditional "on premise" applications and databases alongside a rapidly growing Cloud and digital footprint. The candidate must be experienced and capable to ensure information flow and availability is not compromised across the two landscapes.

Technical experience required:

Demonstrable and proven experience in the following domains: Data strategy & governance, Data modelling, Data Store definition, Content management, Asset discovery & access and Analytics, BI, warehouse.

Experience in/awareness of Cloud services - IAAS, SAAS, PAAS etc.

Experience in/awareness of Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) between legacy, COTS and bespoke applications.

Experience in/awareness of big data, analytics/in memory databases and data types - e.g. structured & unstructured data, etc.

Working knowledge of legislation and regulation governing data access, storage and retention

Demonstrable experience in the following database technologies: Oracle, SQL, JDBC, PL/SQL, stored procedures, frameworks (struts, spring, hibernate etc.).

Experience in Data Management tools (modelling, migration, MDM, profiling, ETL etc.).

Breadth of experience in established and emerging data technologies - experience/conversant in emerging tools - columnar or NoSQL databases, predictive analytics, data visualization, unstructured data.

Demonstrable in the design and construction of information architectures that enable well-integrated transactional, collaborative and analytical systems.

Experience in enterprise wide data governance and assuring project design against transitional and target architectural states.

Understanding of taxonomies, as well as the challenges of applying structured techniques (data modelling) to less structured sources.

Understanding of the differences between various modelling and object modelling techniques

Data migration (validation, clean up and mapping).

As an experienced Data Architect you will be a strong team player with the ability to understand and contribute to in-depth architectural discussions and considerations. With strong communication and inter-personal skills you will be effective in stakeholder management with the ability to influence the business and the wider IT team. You must have strong analytical and conceptual skills with an ability to create appropriate solution concepts for a variety of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will hold a Practitioner certification in one / some of the following architectural frameworks - ToGAF, Zachman framework, DMBoK etc.

The roles will be primarily based in the South, but the candidate must be prepared for some travel throughout UK and Northern Ireland.
