Configuration Management Engineer

Based in Middlesex the Configuration Engineer will work for a leading manufacturer supplying electronic instruments to the renewable energy sector and other industries whose main product is a sensor for use in the measurement of wind speed and direction on wind turbines. Our clients business has grown rapidly in recent years and is now one of the largest suppliers of wind sensors worldwide.

The Configuration Engineer's primary task will be to establish and maintain an electronic information management system and to maintain our Engineering documentation library to ensure consistency of technical information in all our products. This is a new role, supporting the Engineering Programme Manager and working across Engineering and Quality. The Configuration Engineer will make an immediate contribution and will have at least two years' experience in a configuration management role in an engineering or manufacturing environment.

The configuration Engineer will initially support the introduction of a new electronic information management system for documentation control and configuration management (Product Lifecycle Management and Configuration Management).

Supervise and maintain the Engineering department documentation library to ensure the consistency of technical information (requirements, design, performance and operational) in all products throughout their lifecycle.

Liaise with the Quality department for the application and compliance of documentation control, change control and configuration management company-wide.

The Configuration Engineers main tasks and responsibilities will be as follows

* Documentation control and configuration management system

*Support the implementation of a new Product Lifetime Management and Configuration Management software suite to meet the requirements provided by the Engineering Programme Manager and key stakeholders

*Develop and implement guidelines , procedures and templates to maintain the consistent application of documentation control and configuration management

*Support the delivery of company-wide training on the information management system,

*Ensure the compliance of the information management system with ISO9001 and undertake configuration audits

* Supervision and maintenance of documentation library for the Engineering department

*Set up, supervise and maintain the documentation library for the Engineering department, including the integration with the development guidelines and libraries of Engineering technical teams (electronics, mechanical, software, firmware, production design, automation), together with Engineering teams

*Ensure that the reviews and approvals of requirements, technical specifications and project documents are conducted and signed off by appropriate authority levels in line with the Product Lifecycle Management methodology

*Ensure that status information of all products and projects is current and maintained

*Supervise the processing and completion of change control requests in Engineering and maintain change control records and issue logs

*Provide support, templates and coordination to projects to ensure that documentation control and configuration management methods, standards and processes are adhered to throughout the project / product / equipment development cycle

*Support the integration of Product Lifecycle Management software with project controls (reports, plans, costs, risks, issues)

*Advise improvements to the quality control of the documentation control and configuration management system, to continuously improve standards in line with ISO9001

*Administer usernames for Engineering team members

To be successful in this role the configuration engineer will have the following skills, experience and knowledge

*Formal training or certification in project management e.g. PRINCE2 Foundation or above

* At least 2 years' experience in a configuration management role in an engineering or manufacturing environment

*Good understanding of configuration management requirements and standards including BS ISO 10007

*Hands-on experience of industry standard PLM software suite management

*Excellent organisational, administration & analytical skills

*Solid project management skills

*Ability to develop good understanding of end user requirements

*Ability to compile and write formal requirements, specifications and reports

*Ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels

*Excellent verbal and written communication skills

*Competency with Microsoft Office tools

*Experience of working within ISO 9001 quality management system framework
