The Company:

Our client is a developer, manufacturer and distributor of medical equipment and services, with offices worldwide and distribution channels in over 100 countries. They have three operating divisions: (a) Security, providing security and inspection systems, turnkey security screening solutions and related services; (b) Healthcare, providing patient monitoring, diagnostic cardiology and anaesthesia systems; and (c) Optoelectronics and Manufacturing, providing specialized electronic components and electronic manufacturing services for the Security and Healthcare divisions, as well as to external original equipment manufacturer clients for application in the defence, aerospace, medical and industrial markets, among others.


The Software Manager Role:

The Software Manager will generate and maintain appropriate management information on software development progress - e.g. progress metrics, bug rates, test coverage metrics. To manage the software team, to ensure planned objectives are achieved.


This is a full time position based in Edinburgh, UK within the companys Diagnostic Cardiology Research & Development facility.


Key Responsibilities of the Software Manager:
Participate in product development activities to further the companies aims.Make efficient use of provided tools and resources to carry out assigned tasks.Influence and advise on product and implementation details to maximise return on investment.Ensure personal skills and practices are kept current and follow industry best practice where applicable.Ensure personal and subordinates activities are compatible with legal, company and regulatory requirements.Line management and mentoring of individuals in the software teamCarry out appraisals and performance review for the software team staffHave authority for day to day system and software architecture design decisions.Participate in the controlled document review procedure.Use available training and reading materials and recommend any additional training required to keep own skills and those of the software team current.Recommend changes to departmental practices and procedures where appropriate.Participate in project meetings and discussions when requiredParticipate in peer review and discussions of own and others’ work.Participate in design review procedures as required.Ensure all work in the software team is stored on media covered by company IT backup.Resource allocation within the software group to support the Project ManagersUphold the Company’s core values of Integrity, Innovation, Accountability, and Teamwork.Demonstrate behaviour consistent with the Company’s Code of Ethics and Conduct. Exhibit manager core competencies. It is the responsibility of every employee to report to their manager or a member of senior management any quality problems or defects in order for corrective action to be implemented and to avoid recurrence of the problem.Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business.  

Requirements:
A high degree of self-motivation is essential together with an eye for detailThe ability to investigate technical concepts and problems in depthStrong background in PC/application software development  

Other Requirements:
