Senior Unix & Virtualisation Specialist

£44,579 - £48,255 (including London Weighting Allowance) 

Based in the heart of London, our client is one of the UK’s leading educational organisations. They are now looking for a Senior Unix & Virtualisation Specialist to join their team.

As the Senior Unix & Virtualisation Specialist, you’ll be responsible for leading the implementation of our client’s Linux and Unix infrastructure, as well as their virtualisation services and systems. 

In this important role, you’ll support the effective delivery of day-to-day operational services in-line with the ITIL quality management framework. 

Liaising with colleagues, you’ll ensure that third line support, backup, disaster recovery and business continuity services are delivered to the highest standards. 

Additionally, you’ll identify requirements, evaluate solutions, plan upgrades, develop systems and build long-lasting relationships with suppliers. 

To be considered, you must have a professional computing qualification (or equivalent). Demonstrable knowledge and experience of the following is also essential: 

- Working in an ITIL-based environment, including project management, change control and incident management 

- Development and support within a multi-server Linux and/or Unix environment, with an emphasis on the support and development of services 

- The support and development of physical and virtual infrastructure in data centre environments 

- Networking and mixed infrastructure environments, such as Linux or Unix, VMware, MS and Novell 

As the Senior Unix & Virtualisation Specialist, you must be articulate with superb interpersonal and relationship-building skills. You must also be able to effectively prioritise your workload and juggle demands within a fast-paced environment. 

A degree (or equivalent) would be beneficial to your application.
