Purpose of the job:

You will work as part of a small, highly motivated software development team incorporated into the Business Analysis Team. Reporting to the Senior Analyst Programmer and working closely with the Business Analysts, you will contribute to all aspects of the design and implementation of new applications alongside the enhancement and support of existing solutions. You will be responsible for providing technical expertise and analysis throughout the entire software development cycle.

Main duties and responsibilities:

To participate in the development of new software solutions, from requirement gathering through implementation to delivery. Providing technical expertise, support and analysis throughout every phase of the project.

To assist in the support and enhancement of existing business applications and associated integration components.

To work closely with the Business Analysts in delivering solution documentation appropriate for each level of the project lifecycle.

To provide excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills when resolving issues in conjunction with the IT colleagues.

To communicate technical material effectively to audiences of variable technical proficiency both verbally and in writing.

To contribute to the development of a set of standards, procedures and documentation relating to the work of the Business Analyst Team.

In conjunction with the other members of the Business Analysis Team,contribute from a base of professional expertise to the continuing review and development of the University's Business Systems.

Skills and Experience:

Educated to degree level or extensive related experience supported by relevant industry specific qualifications.

In depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL from a developer's perspective including: Database design, Optimisation, Queries and ETL processes and Reporting.

Experience of developing with: C#, .NET Framework, ASP.NET MVC, JavaScript and REST/SOAP Web Services.

Strong troubleshooting and analysis skills

Experience of delivering high quality technical solutions relevant to multiple stakeholders within project timescales.

Experience of contributing throughout the software development lifecycle within project based scenarios.

Experience of Microsoft development tools and environments.

Interpersonal skills necessary to sustain effective working relationships with colleagues across the university, suppliers and external bodies to ensure an effective technical approach to business issues and developments.

Able to communicate technical concepts to non-technical people, verbally and in writing.

Highly delivery focused with a genuine enthusiasm and interest in providing best-fit technical solutions in timely manner.

Experience with SharePoint (2013 onwards) is also desirable.

Additional Information:

The appointment is offered on a permanent basis, subject to satisfactory references.

The annual leave entitlement is 30 days p.a. additionally there are 3 - 4 days when the university closes for Christmas

Your normal hours of work will be 35 hours per week, plus a lunch break of one hour each day.
