Core Systems Team Leader (Contract)

£450 - £475 per day

A leading Research Institution in London is currently looking to recruit for a Core Systems Team Leader on an interim basis whilst they look for a permanent replacement. The ideal candidate will have been working in an infrastructure / core systems team leader / manager role in recent contracts. You will come from a Systems Admin / Linux & Unix background and will have experience working in multi-platform / multi-OS environments.

Although a strong technical background is required, the role will be 80% management and thus experience of operational and project management is required.

Key requirements:

Managerial

* Proven track record of leading backend systems team specialists and empowering them to effectively deliver high quality, technically advanced infrastructure

* Experience of collaborative team/working environments, working in matrixed teams and using influencing skills to achieve common goals across teams including internal staff and external suppliers from multiple vendors

* Experience of working with a Technical Design Authority (TDA) to provide TDA capabilities to the organisation

* Proven track record in the establishment and management of large-scale, agile, mission critical systems through influencing others in the appropriate design, selection and final implementation

* Strong experience in security, service continuity, risk management and mitigation techniques (including BC/DR), demonstrating leadership in their effective application

* Excellent ability to manage ambiguity and undertake forward planning

* Experience managing senior members of a delivery team, delegating appropriately to enable them to deliver on their objectives and creating virtual teams as appropriate to support knowledge sharing and cross'skilling

* Ability to think logically, analyse situations, problem solve and lead a team

* Ability to identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness of self and team through introduction of new technologies or processes, or exploitation of existing systems

* Strong ability to communicate technical concepts and opportunities to a research and business audience

* Experience of applying ITIL best practices and In depth exposure to and experience using project management methodologies, e.g. PRINCE2 and Agile

* Previous experience of working in a scientific research environment would be preferable but is not essential

Technical

* Experience with a wide range of Operating Systems, Server Platforms and Virtualisation Technologies (Windows, Mac, Linux, VMware etc)

* Experience in managing delivery of core services such DHCP, DNS and Directory Services (eg, Active Directory and LDAP)

* Demonstrable experience with a range of Server and Storage Hardware (such as Dell, EMC (including Isilon), HP, Cisco UCS, etc)

* Ideally, experience of Unified Communications environments (preferably Cisco)

* Experience designing and implementing appropriate systems to allow secure but effective operation and collaboration (e.g., firewall policies, DMZ, single sign-on, SSH, SSL, Kerberos, SAML2)

* Experience of developing or commissioning custom scripts using, for example, bash, Perl, Python, PowerShell, to support automated management of systems and services

* Experience of infrastructure provision for web platforms (e.g. IIS, Apache, LAMP) and middleware, Oracle & SQL Databases

* Experience of infrastructure management reporting, monitoring and configuration tools (eg virtualisation management with UCS Director)

* Experience of working with public cloud, private cloud and in-house infrastructure, and integration across a variety of hosted systems (particularly authentication/authorisation, and across systems such as HR and Finance that provide master data
