Unix Engineer - Ubuntu - Debian - AIX - Redhat - Oracle Enterprise Linux / OEL - North London

My client has an urgent requirement for an experienced Unix Engineer to join an existing Infrastructure Unix team focused on research, design and management of commercial & open source versions of Unix and Linux. The successful Unix Engineer will be required to implement chosen technologies and configure them to business standards and provide the operational teams with documentation, training, best practices along side participating in a 24/7 support rota.

£55,000 - £65,000 + Benefits

Key Skills & Experience:

* An In depth understanding of at least 3 of the following operating systems: Ubuntu, Debian, AIX, CoreOS / Docker, RedHat, Oracle Enterprise Linux

* Excellent Unix Scripting

* Server build and configuration (e.g Puppet)

* Strong written and verbal communication skills

* Passion for open source technologies

* Able to demonstrate an awareness of industry and market developments

* Comfortable adapting to change and learning quickly in a fast-paced environment

* Experience/understanding of supporting a 24x7 operation

* Evaluation of solutions to meet the technical requirements and selection of the appropriate solution

* Development and execution of plans to implement chosen technology

* Configuration and set up of hardware and operating systems

* Management and monitoring of systems to ensure that issues are quickly identified and resolved

* Testing patches and new versions of operating systems and upgrading equipment to the latest versions

* Provision of documentation of the server infrastructure
