Main Purpose of the role:

This role will be responsible for the DevOps for various operational systems (both Cloud and standalone servers) and management systems (Cloud-based), to cover:

- Systems and software build, including continuous integration.

- Systems design to deliver manageability, performance, security, scalability & resilience of these systems, release management.

- Automated configuration management.

- Out of hours 4th line support (as and when required).

Responsibilities:

- Design, write, adapt, test, integrate and support complex infrastructure-as-code components to help ensure streamlined, repeatable, and scalable deployments on-site (3000+ units), in hybrid-cloud, and in the public cloud (Chef, CloudFormation, etc).

- Help maintain, execute and promote best practices regarding non-functional requirements such as security, support, maintenance, availability, performance, scalability.

Experience:

3-5 years' experience of DevOps working within software development project teams, with experience covering any of the following areas:

- Linux or Unix (any)

- PSQL (or similar RDBMS such as MySQL)

- Web-based protocols, including TCP/IP, CIDR, routing, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SSH.

- Web servers (e.g. Apache, Nginx, IIS)

- Automation (e.g. Chef, Puppet, CFEngine, CloudFormation)

- Scripting languages (e.g. Ruby, Bash, Perl, Python, Powershell, etc)

- JVM deployment and configuration (especially memory settings / management)

- Security (e.g. IPtables, firewalls, Virus protection, etc)

- Load balancers (e.g. HW/SW, HAProxy, Zeus, ELB), including DNS based load balancing

- Cloud technologies and their SDKs
