Job Title: IT Programmer

Location: Edinburgh, Scotland

Salary: £25,000 - £30,000 per annum

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

Hours: 35 hours per week. Monday to Friday, 8am - 4pm, with unpaid break for lunch On-Call as needed on a rota basis

Holiday Entitlement: 28 days holiday including public holidays.

Job Role:

Our Client is a leading UK Media Intelligence Agency. They are looking for a dynamic, experienced programmer to join their Edinburgh City Centre programming team. This role offers the candidate excellent terms and conditions, a great working environment and the opportunity to work on, and manage a range of interesting and fulfilling projects in the media sector.

The job of the Programmer is the creation and maintenance of bespoke media monitoring intranets, and associated technologies.

You would be part of a stable internal IT department headed by the IT Director, who would be your line manager. The IT Director usually liaises with the production areas of the company in a pro-active manner though all programmers are expected to troubleshoot issues as they arise. This post will bring the number of dedicated programmers to three.

Main Areas of Responsibility

* Development and implementation of company's technology

* Systems deployment across all Press Data environments

* Design and build of all database solutions and project management responsibility.

* Maintenance of all software systems.

* Develop and manage MIS and reporting systems on all processes

* Use MIS to improve services

* Maintain documentation in proper ordered and organised manner.

* Manage internal communications with production operations, including briefing documents, as needed.

The programmer must work as a full member of the team, assisting others where necessary and helping to ensure a uniformly high quality of output.

The Programmer must:

* Be punctual and ready to start work at agreed shift start times

* Develop the ability to work individually on tasks as well as contribute to the team effort and to be responsible for the good quality of individual work output

* Maintain and update their knowledge of all internal processes as well as current technological changes that could impact upon the effectiveness of Press Data LTD.

* Be aware of the importance of attention to detail in all output to others.

* Assist other team members and liaise with other departments to ensure deadlines are met

* Keep their work station(s) and the work environment clean, tidy and safe

* Deal with client enquiries (external and internal) in a polite and efficient manner

* Communicate and maintain good working relationships with other team members, staff and other stakeholders.

Skills required

Excellent knowledge of current, as well as future programming standards. Solid testing methodology. Solid understanding of the best practice for programming tasks.

Types of technology are listed below, but are not exhaustive:

* Windows 2003/2008/2012

* SQL 2000/2005

* IIS6/7

* ODBC

* XML

* C#

Excellent knowledge of the following area is mandatory.

* VBScript

* JavaScript

* HTML

* ASP

* Microsoft . Net Framework and associated technologies ie Asp. Net and the ability to convert from Scripting environment to . Net will be highly desirable

* Excellent all-round IT skills

* Good concentration levels and an organised attitude within busy working environment

* Ability to work and communicate well within a team structure

Personal attributes

The ability to produce accurate, managed code to a series of tight deadlines is essential, as is the aptitude to interpret a diverse amount of information. A significant part of the duties will involve working accurately with in house intranet/database software. As a growing company, they require all staff to develop a versatile range of skills in relation to a daily agenda where quality and consistency of service to others is of prime importance
