Python Developer

A top tier Investment Bank based in London (Wharf) is currently looking for a Python Developer to join a team of 4 developers, working on building out their new development infrastructure. This involves developing a toolkit that is used by over 500 globally distributed software engineers across all lines of business within the bank. This is a part of a big investment into streamlining the way critical software is built across the business.

The Python development team is centralised in London, with varying levels of experience from a talented graduate to the tech lead with over 20 years of experience. The team is not bound by bureaucracy or regulation as their clients are software developers, so you will regularly write code in the morning that is helping developers across the globe by lunch time.

Ideal skills

Strong command of Python in a Linux environment

Some understanding of testing methodologies such as unit testing, integration testing, automation testing or TDD

Knowledge of databases such as SQL, Oracle, Sybase or DB2

Bonus non-essential skills: Javascript and general web development skills to work on the developer dashboard when necessary

Package

Salary: between £60,000 and £90,000 + benefits + bonus + flexible working + home working + 25 days holiday

This is a great project, the team is ring-fenced from the rest of the business and had a lot of freedom to develop innovative tools and frameworks that benefit the rest of the bank. As a valued Python developer in this small, agile team, you will play an important role in back end development as well as occasionally working on the web UI's. No finance experience is necessary for this role, making it a great introduction into finance, opening up Hedge Funds and other avenue's internally such as progressing into team leadership.
