Lead Software Engineer - Avionics

This is an immediate requirement for a Lead Software Engineer or Lead Software Developer with experience of working on low level embedded Software.

A great opportunity has arisen for a Lead Software Engineer to work for a leading Avionics design company in the Hertfordshire area. This Lead Software Engineer role will be working on a number of new programmes and products being developed for both the UK and international markets.

JOB DESCRIPTION & REQUIREMENTS

Responsibilities for this Lead Software Engineer role

- You will be designing the low level and application software for a range of avionics related systems and product lines, initially focusing on Datalinks and Telemetry Subsystems.

- The Datalink products are bespoke, complex radio systems that provide the communication link between flight and ground

- This is a senior technical role - you will be responsible for the architecture and design of the software that comprises our Datalink and Telemetry products and will have responsibility for ensuring that the resulting implementations are reliable, safe, secure, maintainable and adaptable.

- You will provide technical direction and leadership in the Datalinks and Telemetry teams - as such, you will have excellent communication skills and be confident working with and influencing colleagues from other disciplines.

Requirements for this Lead Software Engineer role

- You will ideally have a good degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Electronics combined with significant experience in the design of low-level and application software for high integrity embedded systems. - You will have worked the full lifecycle (conception through to delivery) on a number of projects, taking a software manager role in at least one.

- You will have a good working knowledge of Real Time Operating Systems and be able to talk confidently about the development of real-time software on multi-core platforms.

- You will favour a collaborative, open approach to development and have the ability to inspire others, and maintain momentum during development.

- The software that you develop will be used across multiple products at several sites, so strong communication skills and the ability to motivate and influence others are essential.

- You will have experience of UML and perhaps SysML and be able to discuss the pros and cons of these languages.

You will have some experience in model-driven development, using tools such as IBM Rhapsody.
