Our client, based in Huntingdon, provides business critical software products and related services to the UK Police Forces. ‘Origin’ is their comprehensive ERP solution which has enabled strong growth in their highly profitable business for many years. They uphold their reputation as a market-leading supplier in their space, and for their staff they have access to a wealth of resources and support.

Our Client has developed their own Java API for application development, which allows developers to build consistent and robust solutions. The Framework is built upon using industry standard technologies and components, such as Tomcat, XSLT, Java script, HTML, CSS etc. offering Browser Neutrality, Internationalisation (i18n) out of the box.

Role:

The Graduate Software Developer role is ‘hands-on’, with involvement throughout the full development life-cycle and working as part of an agile development team. The primary responsibility will be to use the Eclipse IDE, in the building of Java Framework software, and SQL to interact with the Oracle database, to time and quality, within the structure of our client’s project plans, and under the leadership of the Solutions Architect. Other responsibilities involve peer reviews of code and, where necessary, the mentoring and cross-training of others. In addition to these duties, employees are expected to undertake other duties as may reasonably be required.

In order for the team for operate efficiently, all members work under minimal supervision. They all must follow our client’s best practice approach to development, in line with their published standards and processes.

An induction programme will be provided, involving the processes, policies and standards we follow and the technology we use.

We are looking for technologists with a passion for creative Java software development to build bespoke front-end software solutions. They need to bring enthusiasm to this exciting role and must maintain a strong work ethic throughout. Candidates must have the potential for programming in Java as part of a development team, and demonstrate an aptitude for Object Orientated ("OO") software.

The successful candidate must possess the following technical skills:

- A computer science based degree

- Exposure to Java development

- Experienced in Object Orientated design and development methods

- Experience of using SQL

They must also possess:

- Good problem solving skills

- Be a self-motivator, work on own initiative and be a team player

- Professional image and well developed time management skills

- Have the ability to adapt and learn new technology, on the job.

- Is willing and able to successfully pass a formal UK Police Security Clearance (SC) check.
