Our client is a marketing technology company. Our technology enables our clients to deliver their marketing ideas with minimal impact on their development resource.

Our client works with companies from various sectors, including Hertz, Odeon, IG Group and Pension Bee. Our primary clients are large enterprises.

We are a startup with 15 employees, with offices in Birmingham and London.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a Junior Developer with strong, well-rounded skills. You will have a passion for software development and be able to demonstrate experience of developing web applications/technologies. Any experience or interest in mobile development is a welcome bonus.

You will be a crucial part of our development team. Your primary role will be coding the JavaScript-based plugins by which our campaigns are delivered. You will be involved in projects from concept to completion. You will work closely with members of our consulting team and with other members of our development team. You will communicate directly with client developers throughout the design and implementation of their marketing campaigns.

As a Junior Developer you will work as part of our growing, Birmingham-based Development team to create innovative and elegant solutions for our core platform. These are the tools we currently use and with which you would work:

You will have experience with:

JavaScript

Writing apps/functionality in vanilla JavaScript

Node.js

Up-to-date Javascript: ES6/ES2016/ES.next

Delivering cross browser compatible HTML, JavaScript and CSS (ideally back to IE9)

SQL (ideally PostgreSQL)

Git and knowledge of popular workflows

contributing to/maintaining Open Source projects (issue creation/management, pull requests)

Personal

You will demonstrate:

a pragmatic approach to each solution, experience in evaluating possible language/stack and making informed technology decisions;

experience working in a team;

experience working independently; and

experience working with client developers.

Bonus

We will look favorably on candidates with some of the following:

A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or a related field is a plus but attitude and experience come first. A demonstrable portfolio will hold more weight than any academic accreditation.

A day in the life

We start the day with standups where we briefly describe: what we did yesterday (and if anything unplanned arose); what we are planning to do today, and (most importantly) what, if anything, is blocking our progress.

We hold retrospective meetings every three weeks where we ask ourselves: How could we do better?. Its an opportunity to consider ideas (big and small) that can have a big impact on how we deliver as a business.
