The Company

A fantastic company situated in East Sussex in a little town and surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes are seeking a Software Manager Engineer to join their Development team. They are a friendly and rewarding company who offer a competitive salary and great benefits.

The Role

You will be responsible for a team of 14 Software Engineers covering embedded and windows applications. Ideally with a background in software development, you will have a good understanding of the software development process, from initial ideas, through to release. The primary focus of the role is to manage the team including; managing the team schedule; assigning work and priorities; monitoring progress; managing work and staff issues; liaising with Project Managers and other section Managers to meet timescales; presenting progress and status updates. You will also be required to handle the day to day running of some of the smaller development projects. You will report to the Development Manager and/or a designated intermediary.

The Software Manager's Responsibilities

*To assist in developing new software and firmware products to fulfil the company's development plan

*To ensure that agreed quality, cost and time milestones are met

*To produce documentation as required for peer group review and future reference, in fulfilment of our Quality standards

*To work productively with other Hanover staff in the mutual achievement of Company goals

*To advise his or her manager of any improvements, conflicts of interest or inefficiencies pertaining to development activities

*To consistently define, follow and promote development processes for software creation, release and delivery.

Must haves

*Software Development background

*Demonstrably conversant with using modern SW design and development practices - Design Patterns, version control, unit testing etc.

*Management or team lead experience

*Good planning and organisational skills

*Ability to work in a fast paced environment, and turnaround projects in short timescales.

*Ability to allocate time and resources to meet the project priorities

*Ability to work on multiple projects in parallel

*Ability to understand and resolve technical difficulties

*Self-motivated and ability to work autonomously

*Ability to give updates and snapshot reports to Senior Management as required.

*Ability to run (Project Manage) small projects as required

*Strong interpersonal skills

*Ability to guide / mentor junior members of staff.

*Ability to handle staff issues

*Ability to work across the levels of Sales, Development, Manufacturing etc.

*Experience in working within an ISO90001 Quality system and contributing to its development

*Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

Nice to haves

*Knowledge of hardware and/or electronics

*Experience in programming at least one scripting language: Lua, Python, bash

*Hardware interfacing experience
