A Technical Architect or Application Architect is sought by this major provider of data services to be the Technical Lead Software Engineer in a team of 15 Java Software Engineers.

APPLICATION ARCHITECT

This Technical Architect will be the embedded Technical Authority for their Product Team, a team which works closely with Product Managers to lead the Application Architecture and build new products and features for their market leading platform.

SQUAD METHODOLOGY AND PRODUCT DELIVERY

The team is run by a Development Manager and is split into 2 main scrum or Kanban-based Squads, each run by a Lead Java developer, or Product Owner. These Lead Java developers will report to the Technical Architect on technical issues, so this role requires strong Java development skills so that they can provide direction and guidance on issues of design, development, testing, deployment etc.

PLATFORM ARCHITECT

This Technical Architect will also work very closely with the Chief Architect to decide matters of Platform Architecture, and 2 other Technical Architects who have similar responsibilities in different teams.

TECHNICAL AUTHORITY AND RnD

This technical architect will join a development culture that is very product driven, and very delivery focussed (hence the squad model) and this role will be about picking the right technologies and doing things the right way. New software tools and approaches can be introduced within 2 weeks but it would never be "technology for technology's sake", always "technology for a reason".

RESPONSIBILITIES: Technical Architect - Java Cloudfoundry

* Application Architecture

* SOLID

* SAAS and PAAS architecture, including Cloudfoundry

* Work with other architects to ensure direction of wider platform architecture

* Provide technical leadership to a team of 15 Java developers

* Leading delivery

* Hands on Java development where necessary

* Working with other architects and tech stakeholders

* Have an eye on the future pipeline of projects so introduction of new projects is not a surprise to everyone on team

* Be the right-hand person to Dev Mgr.

* Conduct RnD, with a purpose. RnD is looking at problems that need to solved (not ivory tower stuff)

* Technical authority within the team.

HOW HANDS-ON?

This role is not a Java developer role. But it is right for someone who has enjoys coding and they now take a more senior set of technical responsibilities within in the team. Yes, they can develop Java applications very well. No, that doesn't mean this is a job for "Java developer" who will sit in the corner and follow commands. This technical architect will provide technical leadership to, and will have technical authority for, a team of 15 Java developers!
