Software Engineer - C++

A Software Engineer experienced with C++ is required to work on my client's database software within the business in Cambridge. The code base for the team comprises C++, C, C# and Fortran and they us Agile Scrum methodology for software development.

Team members have opportunities to specialise in areas such as the internals of the database product; multi-user/multi-site capabilities and also to work on other components that fall within the responsibility of the wider group. Future scopes of work may include developments such as Cloud development and storage; concurrent programming; database encryption and compression.

Areas of responsibility for the Software Engineer includes, but is not limited to:

*Development and maintenance of database and other core software components

*Product integration support for consumers of the software components

*Delivering customer support: all the products have a strong focus on customer interaction, therefore customer support is a key responsibility, so every Software Engineer is expected to deliver timely solutions to customer-encountered problems

*Participating in peer reviews and architectural discussions

*Working within a Scrum team with other developers, testers, Scrum Master and Product Owner to ensure software delivery is on time, feature complete and to agreed quality standards

*Actively participates in all scrum meetings: planning and estimating; sprint reviews & retrospectives; daily stand-ups; backlog maintenance

To be successful in this post the Software Engineer will have the following skills:

*Background in software development, with a minimum 2 years work experience that includes operating in a commercial environment where products have to be delivered to scope, budget and schedule

*Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering or numerate subject

*Development experience using languages including C++ and/or C

*Analysis and design experience

*Object oriented programming

*Working with configuration management tools such as ClearCase and/or TFS

Any of the following skills will be beneficial:

*Experience in the development of database technology

*Experience of writing software where performance and integrity are critical

*C#, Fortran or willingness to learn

*Visual Studio / .Net tools

*Experience of working on multi-location and multi-national software development projects

*Experience of working on large complex software systems

*Experience of using Agile methodologies such as Scrum
