Construction Director - £85,000 + 20% Bonus + Car + benefits - FTSE 100 engineering organisation

I am recruiting on behalf of a FTSE 100 engineering organisation and market leader in providing engineering support to the nuclear industry.

We are currently looking for an accomplished construction director to mange a high value, complex and high profile construction project at Hinkley Point C. You will be responsible for the successful and timely delivery of the Balance of Nuclear Island (BNI) mechanical Erection contract.

Role Responsibilities:

* To provide behavioural safety leadership (nuclear & conventional safety) and ensure strategies and plans and project delivery arrangements give appropriate and robust consideration to all relevant nuclear, health & safety, quality & environmental standards and requirements

* To lead work streams relating to Constructability Reviews and support the delivery of the other work streams as required

* To work with other Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC contractors to develop and deliver construction strategies for the areas in which they will operate.

* To validate the customer's Integrated Works Schedule (IWS) planning assumptions, logic and durations (including delivering CBN's work within joint Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC (MEH) access windows)

* To ensure that UK codes and standards that apply are adopted and implemented in the works. (e.g. CDM 2015)

* To provide input to help develop the organisations construction schedule (and capture the supporting planning assumptions, logic, risks and opportunities)

* To develop construction strategies that deal with painting, scaffolding/access platforms, NDT and radiography, walled-in and free-issue equipment.

* To produce typical construction sequences for the fit-out of rooms and erection areas following civil handover.

* To provide input to help develop a robust logistics strategy and plan to ensure the efficient , cost effective and timely delivery of materials to site and the work face, including the interfacing and co-ordinating with the customer and other contract partners in regards to free issue equipment (and capture the supporting planning assumptions, logic, risks and opportunities)

* To develop strategies for managing change and uncertainty (in information, quants, timings, delivery arrangements & logic, etc.), for establishing a clear project & contractual baseline, and mitigating the impacts on schedule and cost.

* To provide leadership to the other work stream leads and ensure alignment of their supporting strategies and plans (e.g. functions, capabilities & resources)

Role Qualifications and Requirements:

Knowledge:

* Nuclear safety, Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental standards and expectations, and a good understanding of implementing behavioural safety programmes - Ideally NEBOSH General Certificate trained

* Significant experience in project management role within a multi-national, large scale, complex and evolving project in a highly regulated environment involving multiple interfaces and stakeholders and work across multiple site, disciplines and nationalities.

* Project delivery & performance management

* Skill and competence in strategic planning of complex large scale programmes & logistics

* Analysis of business objectives and development of strategies and plans to address.

* Management of uncertainty and a robust understanding of implementing effective risk management strategies

* Change management (ideally on an NEC3 target price contract)

* Collaboration and working within a JV or similar and with multiple nationalities and cultures

Experience:

* Experience of leadership within an operational nuclear site.

* Large scale construction project experience, preferably involving delivery in a multi-trade (MEH) environment and/or delivery of Mechanical Erection work (installation of plant & equipment, supports, pipework and insulation) - Ideally Chartered Mechanical or Process Engineer

* Experience above to typically cover the following areas of project delivery:

* Project & capability mobilisation planning & delivery

* Construction planning, co-ordination, management & delivery

* Delivery performance & productivity management

* Material logistics, forecasting & management

* Stakeholder & interface management

* Information management & change management

* Project governance, reporting & management arrangements

* Capability development / deployment (e.g. processes & tools, such as project ERP tools)

* Improved and sustained health, safety and environmental standards.

* Leadership of multi-disciplined teams.
