ROLE

The Product Safety Engineer will report to the Engineering Manger / Head of Product Safety and/or his nominee and will provide specialist safety knowledge to project teams involved in the development of military equipment and/or any associated sub-systems or services.

This will involve definition of effective safety strategies to allow contract specific safety targets to be met, the generation of safety documents, establishment of safety assessments Plans, and activities to ensure delivery to contract safety requirements.

DUTIES

Fostering strong relationships with the customer by:

* Developing links with the applicable customers to underpin our commitment to customer satisfaction.

* Providing safety engineering input into technical/business proposals in support of specific contract requirements.

* The interpretation of the safety requirements, including environmental, from MoD, DoD and other customer specifications and the subsequent development of qualitative and quantitative requirements for inclusion in equipment specifications

* Undertaking safety hazard analysis, using recognised tools and techniques, such as PHI, PHA, HAZOP, ETA, FTA, etc.

* The generation, update and maintenance of hazard databases, as required by each contract. (such as CASSANDRA.)

* Preparation of Safety Documentation

* The provision of technical expertise and general safety advise to project/design teams on operational and environmental aspects

* Monitoring and assessing sub-contractors and suppliers safety activities to ensure that these are undertaken within the technical, programme.

Responsibility/Authority

* Execution of the work will be achieved with minimal supervision.

The definition of the task, outputs, budget and timescale constraints will be agreed with the senior engineering representative / project manager at the outset.

* The source, production and assessment of all information required to do the work, for self.

* The willingness and capability of the individual to contribute to successful teamwork, and their recognition / response to the needs and desires of the end user of this work, will be crucial in his/her development.

* A range of will be within his/her own technical discipline, though excursions to other tasks / disciplines can be expected.

EXPERIENCE

Experience in office

* Working Knowledge of Company BMS and LCM procedures

* Health and Safety awareness

* Security implications of technical material awareness

* Has some experience of design reviews either through participating as the presenter or acting as an assessor within own specialist area.

* A sound working knowledge of engineering design of Weapons and associated systems.

* Familiarity with the appropriate CAD tools, PDM tools (TeamCenter) and the links to the ERP system (SAP).

Experience requirements of critical key situations, processes

* Have familiarity in ISO 9001:2000, AQAP1 and the application to the Quality Audit process
