Ship Control Office Engineer - Plymouth

A market leading FTSE 100 Defence organisation is currently recruiting for a Safety Engineer to take on permanent positions ASAP. The company is highly regarded for its employee recognition and vital position in today's market place. The SCO Engineer's primary purpose is to operate, control and monitor various SCO functions including operation of the Tagout Control System, control of Painting and Hotwork, Gas Bottles, Confined Space access and Containment procedures.

The post holder will be appointed as a Nuclear Implicated Suitable Qualified and Experienced Person.

The role includes a requirement to work shifts, including weekend work, to support key milestones of submarine projects, for example in the lead up to undocking.

The main responsibilities of the role are as follows -

* To operate, control and monitor various SCO functions including operation of the Tagout system and control of Painting and Hotwork, Gas Bottles, Confined Space access and Containment procedures.

* To Control Hotwork and Painting activities onboard the submarine and ensure that the Hotwork/Painting Logs and Stateboard are maintained up to date

* To monitor and enforce the submarine Secondary Containment arrangements

* To assist the SCO Senior Engineers as required and assume the responsibilities of the Senior Engineers, within predetermined limits, in their absence.

* To brief nominated Ship Staff personnel in the operation of the Tagout Control system and assess their competency to operate the Tagout Control System

* To update the NEB Nuclear Procedure Database and associated Ship Control Office records as required.

* To monitor and enforce the Confined Space/Tank Entry Procedures, ensuring that Entry/Naked Light Certificates are obtained as required and that the Confined Space/Tank Stateboard is maintained up to date.

* To control/monitor the use of Compressed/Bottle Gas onboard the submarine and maintain a log showing the type, location and owner of each gas bottle currently in use on the submarine.

* To control access into locked/restricted submarine compartments against lists of personnel authorised to draw keys.

* To operate and maintain the Assist Chit System.

* To update PPS, associated with MT Tracking, as required.

The successful candidate will display the following skills and experience -

* Nuclear Plant Foundation Course

* Nuclear Fundamental Course

* Submarine Quality Assurance Course

* Nuclear Procedure Coordinator Course

* Mechanical or electrical experience

* Detailed working knowledge of the requirements of the appropriate/relevant processes and procedures for the control of work

* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an engineering discipline
