Head of Hosting, Managed Services & Data Centres

Our client seeks a Head of Hosting, Managed Services and Data Centres who will have overall accountability for the development, delivery and operations of the Company’s Hosting, Managed Services and Data Centre technology function.

This role is responsible for resource planning and deployment, takes overall budget responsibility and provides people and technical leadership within the function; building operational excellence, resilience and engagement.

Key Accountabilities:

- Customer Managed Services Contract delivery

- Customer Facing service platforms - Availability, Performance etc

- Technical New Product Development

- Control of technology services: servers, networks, security, licensing, asset management

- Lifecycle management of all technical services within the function

- Customer installation all services related to Product and Solutions portfolio

- Provision development and management platforms with capabilities for automating environment provisioning, configuration, deployment, performance & the associated tools, technologies and processes

- Data Centre Operations and Development

- The Company’s Facilities environment - major buildings, network sites and services

-Driving change in line with the Company’s business plan as part of the Technology Leadership Team

Key Responsibilities:

- Support the development of Technology Strategy both in and across domain

- Accountable for the delivery of operational performance of the technology systems within the defined responsibility of the domain

- Accountable for all aspects of planning, designing, building, operating and optimising of specific technology domain

- Accountable for supporting the relationship management with key customers including the Isle of Man Government

- Effectively delivers new products and services as required working with the Head of Technical Strategy & Solutions and Product teams

- Develops technical strategy roadmaps in conjunction with Head of Technical Strategy & Solutions

- Ensures all assigned projects are project managed and resourced correctly, delivering on agreed baseline targets, and to cost and quality (or should this just be to engage constructively with the PMO?)

- Accountable for planning and modelling of the domain technology systems and delivering required capacity levels against business forecast

- Accountable for the delivery of all fault management and change management targets for the technology Domain

- Define and implement the overall technology domain program, structure, strategy and approach, including the operational delivery & support plan and interdependencies and critical success

- Manage 3rd Party relationships to ensure delivery across multiple operational functional areas.

- In partnership with other areas of the business, identify areas of potential business transformation

- To lead the strategic evolution of the Company’s datacentres, working with technology teams to evolve its managed services business

- Strategically direct the Company’s use of its facilities to ensure they are fit for purpose for the long term and deliver upon key business and customer SLA’s, quality and efficiency targets

- Drives innovative thinking into the organisation looking for opportunities where the company could partner or collaborate with new suppliers of services or technology solution

- Is a key external industry facing advocate for the company and its innovation, representing the company at key industry forums

Financial:

- Responsible for all OPEX and CAPEX for teams, working with Finance as appropriate >£4m

- Challenging the cost and profitability of existing systems and services, identifying replacement strategies where required

People:

- Lead, manage and develop a team of managers, engineers, technicians and specialists to meet the requirements of the business

- Develop the people leadership capabilities of the function

- Define objectives for the domain, and sets objectives and targets for direct reports and influence those of their functional teams within the domain

- Monitor and manage the performance of functional teams to meet performance standards, ensuring appropriate performance management occurs

- Build staff engagement & satisfaction by holding regular 121’s and team meetings, acting on and addressing key staff issues and communicating in an appropriate fashion

Reporting:

- Ensure delivery of KPI framework agreed with the CTIO

- Accountable for monitoring performance against service targets. Identifies and makes the decision on a course of action to resolve issues that affect the network in the medium and long-term

- Prepare and present professional reports on strategic and other performance of the teams

Qualifications and Experience:

- Significant industry recognised qualifications in relevant fields e.g. Degree/HNC/D

- Effective Management qualification or relevant experience

- Minimum of 10 years’ operating at a Senior Management level within a Telecoms operator or Managed Service Provider with roles aligned to Delivery and Operations

- Experience leading people and building engagement

- 3rd party relationships & contract knowledge - SLAs OLAs

- Security management & ISO 27001 compliance experience

- Establishing proactive monitoring capabilities

- Technical knowledge and understanding of networking, WANs, LANs, remote access and the various derivatives and options; Linux, AIX, Windows & Virtualisation with VMWare;

- Technical knowledge and understanding of cloud computing; IPaaS; Azure; AWS

- Technical knowledge and understanding of hosting and Citrix technologyFocus

- Experience & knowledge of Unified comms; Office 365; Active Directory

- Excellent relationship building and engaging skills

- Knowledge of managing Telecom and Office type facilities

- Successful management of technology suppliers, influencing strategic supplier roadmaps

- Strong Supplier commercial management and effective cost management skills

- Project Management skills - i.e. Prince 2

- DevOps / Agile delivery experience

- ITIL Framework awareness

- Technical knowledge and understanding of Oracle databases, business intelligence and DB performance

- Knowledge and understanding of best practice processes and procedures to deliver operational excellence aligned to lean/six sigma methodologies

- Knowledge of Managing Data Centre’s - Overall Infrastructure Design and Operations

- High level analytical, investigative and problem solving skills

- Experience of successfully managing people and resources

- Excellent use of the full range of Microsoft Office applications

- Proven Project Management & Planning skills

- Excellent report writing skills

- Excellent communication skills

- Excellent commercial relationship and financial skills

- Excellent presentational skills

- Highly confident
