Company Description

Shell started operations in the United Kingdom more than 110 years ago. Since then we have grown into a leading innovative oil and gas company that rewards its employees by investing heavily in their careers and learning. Our people are our greatest asset, and our commitment to your career will see you thrive in a work environment that offers an industry-leading development programme. When your ideas travel, Shell will benefit and innovation will thrive. Shell has a key role to play in helping meet the UK’s growing energy demand, whilst using innovative technologies to develop cleaner energy. We are the largest FTSE 100 company in the UK by market capitalisation, and make a significant contribution to the UK economy. As well as processing 35% of the gas coming into the UK, we serve more than four million customers at our filling stations each week. Shell employs some 6,400 skilled staff as well as many contractors.

What’s the role?

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced ABAP designer with strong technical and leadership skills. Working collaboratively across three continents, you’ll share your expertise to bring out the best in your colleagues and satisfy your customers’ technical requirements.

You’d become the main representative for Shell Downstream’s Solutions Build (SB) team at our London hub. Our Downstream business cuts across a significant area of operations, from refining oil and gas to selling products to customers. You’d work closely with our main SB team, which sits in Bangalore, to make sure we provide seamless support to Competency Center teams in London, The Hague and Houston. You would have to address queries, support issues and engage with stakeholders when Bangalore Team goes offline. Your remit would be to co-operate with our project owners to gain a genuine understanding of their needs and to pull together the right technical requirements. From there, you’d prepare estimations and then put yourself at the heart of finding technical solutions. This includes providing support during different testing phases (including Unit Testing, CAT and Hyper-Care) and writing technical specifications and code according to functional design; naturally, you’d need to take care to meet our stringent quality and compliance guidelines.

What we need from you

Technically, we’re looking for substantial experience of ABAP design, development and implementation. You would have to do hands-on coding and troubleshoot when there is a problem. You can call on experience in:

Basic and advanced ABAP

ALE/IDOC

Forms (Smart forms, ADOBE and SAPScripts)

ODATA/web service

At least three of these SAP modules: OTC, HM, DIS, PGS, FI, CRM, LSC

Ideally, you also have knowledge of:

CRM WebUI/BSP

Workflow

SAP HCP/Fiori App Deployment/Extension

CHIPS

SAP Performance tuning

Middleware (Biztalk/SSIS/Filemover)

It’s your personal skills that will really help you to flourish. You have an open, unpretentious leadership style and you like to work with integrity, embracing diversity and different cultures. You actively seek to add to your own technical knowledge and you’re passionate about bringing out the best in others: you care about the wider team’s coaching and development. Ideally, you have some experience of coordinating contributions from people working in different time zones. You can multitask and manage multiple deliverables and projects at the same time. You have good communication, influential and conflict management skills. You have managed different stakeholders effectively.
