Interaction Design Lead

Sheffield - £58,103 - £68,547 + allowance

My leading client is recruiting 2 X Interaction Designer Lead to join their team in Croydon or Sheffield. This team works closely with user researchers, service designers and content designers to deliver services that are simple, effective and focused on user needs. You will be an expert practitioner to lead a team of interaction designers working across the portfolio. Working closely with service managers, programme directors and senior stakeholders to resource teams, resolve problems and develop future projects. You'll ensure that services are designed to meet both user needs and business goals and will promote your discipline, and take a lead in the wider department and cross government design communities.

Responsibilities

You'll continuously raise the quality of interaction design in the portfolio and:

* build and lead a team of interaction designers, providing performance feedback and supporting their learning and development goals

* ensure teams consider and design for the full range of users who rely on government services - including those with assisted digital and access needs

* work with the head of interaction design and the portfolio team to identify requirements for further interaction design resource

* use the right framework to solve problems and lead teams in the right direction

* communicate with senior stakeholders, advocating a user centred approach

* run stakeholder workshops to set expectations of standards and ways of working

* provide interaction design expertise and consultancy to the portfolio

* provide hands on support and design as required

* collaborate with the head of interaction design and wider design community in the organisation to implement best practice and share understanding

* work with stakeholders to understand their issues while maintaining design quality

Essential Criteria

* Design accessible services, and understand the challenges of designing for a diverse audience

* Solve complex problems and concepts, and makes disciplined decisions based on research evidence

* Apply technical knowledge and experience to create and test workable prototypes

* Enable design within the given constraints (including but not limited to technology, policy, Regulatory, financial, legal, social user constraints) and to challenge constraints that can be changed

* Prototype in code and demonstrate a deep knowledge of modern web standards and development practice

* Create a continually collaborative environment, that can sustain good services

* Work in a fast paced, evolving environment and utilises an iterative method and flexible approach to enable rapid delivery

* Applies an agile mind-set through all aspects of your work

* Convince stakeholders of the value of design and to take a user-centred approach, based on evidence

* Co-ordinate a number of projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities

Desirable Criteria

* Experience of growing skills in team members, supervising the work of others, helping coach other designers

* Have a degree in design, human-computer interaction or relevant industry experience.

You will need to be eligible to undertake security clearance to SC Level.
