Can be based at Bristol, Portsmouth, London or Leicester

Travel across the UK and Overseas required

I am recruiting an experienced Head of Health Safety and Environment to work for a FTSE 100 company which is one of the UK's leading defence support services organisation.

This is a Board level position which reports to the Health Safety and Assurance Director and requires a high level of strategic understanding. You will provide leadership, guidance and direction in the provision of Health, Safety and Environment functional support across the Sector, ensuring the application of 'best practice' and the development of a positive Health & Safety culture throughout the workforce.

Responsibilities

* Provide expert advice and direction to the Business Units on current and future Health, Safety & Environmental legislation, guidance and practices to ensure continual improvement.

* Develop strategies to promote good practise and a positive safety culture from the top down and support to line managers.

* Develop and maintain close working relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally providing regular HSE briefings and understanding operational challenges and risks that impact HSE risk management strategy.

* Ensure effective mechanisms and forums exist to update and involved employees.

* Establish and implement strategy to develop HSE functional capability within the Sector.

* Maintain, develop and continually improve Sector safety management system.

* Provide leadership, direction, guidance and coaching to ensure satisfactory performance and foster a collaborative working ethos within the Sector HSE community.

* Develop relationships with other HSE leadership and external HSE bodies to ensure a collaborative working environment.

Requirements

* Occupational Health and Safety Management qualification (NEBOSH or BSC)

* Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety or other appropriate discipline

* Knowledge of UK and international HSE requirements and standards, and associated good practise.

* Experience of proactively engaging with Senior, Contract and Site management to improve HSE performance

* Extensive experience of monitoring and reporting HSE performance

* Proven track record of imbedding H&S Behavioural change and supporting an improving safety culture

* Multi-Site HSE experience

* International HSE experience
