An new and exciting opportunity has arisen for an Head of Safety & Assurance to join a FTSE 100 Organisation with flexible location for either London, Bristol, Portsmouth or Leicester, to provide leadership, guidance and direction in the provision of Health, Safety, Quality & Environment functional support across the UK Military Air (UKMA) business unit, ensuring the application of 'best practice' and the development of a positive engaged culture throughout the workforce.
* Maintain, develop and continually improve the business unit safety management system (policies, standards, processes and tools) ensuring it supports delivery of business strategy and continued compliance
* Provide expert advice and direction to UKMA on current and future Health, Safety & Environmental legislation, guidance and practices to ensure continual improvement in the development of the business unit's Health, Safety & Environment Management
* Develop strategies to promote good practise and a positive safety culture from the top down and support to line managers to implement; develop and implement safety "just culture"; promotion of "catching and recognising people doing things right".
* Develop and maintain close working relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally
* Ensure effective mechanisms and forums exist to update and involve employees on changes and improvements to SHEQS policies and processes.
* Collaborate with the Sector team on developing the surveillance framework to monitor performance and adherence.
* Support line managers and team capability to investigate events and other learning opportunities
* Ensure the preparation, monitor, analyse and report statistical data on Health, Safety and Environmental performance across the business unit
* Manage and support development of the HSE professional community across business unit
* Develop strategy and implement associated plans for delivery of this role and associated personal and team objectives.
* Manage direct line report/s, proving direction, guidance, coaching to ensure satisfactory performance and foster a collaborative working ethos within the team.
Successful candidate requirements:
* Knowledge of UK and international HSE requirements and standards, and associated good practise.
* Experience of proactively engaging with Senior, Contract and Site management to improve HSE performance
* Extensive experience of monitoring and reporting HSE performance
* Mentor, counsel, coach and generally support those who are not confident in their area of competence, building morale and personal esteem and generally encouraging others to give their best performance
* Multi-Site HSE experience
* International HSE experience
* Proven track record of imbedding H&S Behavioural change and supporting an improving safety culture
* Occupational Health and Safety Management qualification (NEBOSH or BSC) - Desirable
* Environmental Management and Assessment qualification - Desirable
* Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety& Health or other appropriate discipline - Desirable
