Environment Manager

A market leading FTSE 100 Defence organisation is currently recruiting for an Environment Manager to take on a 12 month fixed term contract based in the SHE Assurance Department which is part of the Directorate of Nuclear, Environment, Safety and Quality at Devonport Royal Dockyard. The purpose of the role is to act as the subject matter expert for non-radiological environmental matters. To lead the in the delivery of Environmental Improvement and Assurance programmes. Also to manage and maintain the sites suite of Environmental Permits and Consents.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences

* Preparation / production of reports and suites of information

* Liaise with Project/Production/Contractors/Equipment Suppliers to overcome or mitigate environmental risks and provide support with technical queries

* Assist with the Environmental Risk Assessment (ENRA) process and acknowledge (sign off) where necessary

* To create an Environmental Assurance Programme and where required carry out Environmental Assurance Inspections and Audits

* Produce audit reports and support the process of closing any non-conformances or the sharing of positive practices

* Develop the EMS to comply with ISO14001 (2015)

* Support departments with queries related to environmental management

* Manage and evolve the Environmental Aspects Register

* Support the identification and delivery of training related to environmental matters

* Ability to manage and report on numerous Environmental Permits.

* Line manage direct report employee(s)

Technical Competences:

* Thorough working knowledge of pollution prevention. Knowledge of the application of appropriate techniques and procedures in accordance with any statutory requirements, ENRA, environmental permit or procedure to prevent pollution.

* Through working knowledge of waste management. Including the classification, collection, processing, disposal, managing and monitoringof waste.

* Have a knowledge of the appropriate environmental training for employees & contractors to meet the business needs and to ensure that environmental protection is considered at all times

* Have a good knowledge of the Environmental Permitting Regulations and the associated compliance obligations for holders of environmental permits

* Have a good knowledge of permit reporting and compliance

Experience:

* Suitable experience of environmental management in a complex, highly regulated industrial setting.

* Experience of developing and implementing Environmental Management Systems (EMS), particularly those accredited to ISO14001.

* Experience of working in a marine or dockyard environment is desirable

* A minimum of a Degree level qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject

* Membership of a relevant professional body at a minimum of 'Practitioner' or equivalent level

* An accredited EMS Auditor Qualification (Lead EMS Auditor is desirable)
