System Engineer
A Systems Engineer position has been made available at a top rated hedge fund. This Systems Engineer role is based centrally in London.
The Role
As the Systems Engineer you will be looked at to be a subject matter expert with various computing platforms. You will be looked at design, improve and deploy solutions that are sustainable and effective to meet business requirements. The System Engineer is also involved in working with the development teams to ensure solutions are consistent and aligned properly. While the majority of the position is project based, you are also acting as an escalation point for major issues, and involved in significant outages, identifying root cause issues and implementing permanent fixes. You will be the on site UNIX subject matter expert, and will therefore be asked the calling point for any specific issues.
Being the Systems Engineer you will be expected to have a knowledge base around Unix/Linux to a system admin level. Additionally, the team uses various scripts for automation (such as Python, Perl, Shell, Ruby…), are involved with configuration management, and you will be expected to have a mind-set around source code management with tools like git hub. There successful candidate will be someone who is able to, and is keen on, picking up new technologies. This can include cloud technologies, python development, and potentially contributes to projects on git hub.
Key Technologies
UNIX or Linux to System Admin Level
Automation tools, Perl ruby shell but python advantageous
Python to development level, or aspiration to get to the level
