Lead BI Developer

Our leading insurance and Financial services client are currently in the market looking to hire a talented Principal/ Lead Developer to join the MI team.

The Role

The MI team plays a key part in not only delivering the data but also Extracting and Transforming data for Load into Corporate Data Stores, as well as feeding other external systems.

MI and data delivery is key in the success of all IT projects, leading to a varied, challenging and interesting role. As Principal Developer you would play a leading role in this essential function, gaining wide-reaching experience and building key business and IT relationships along the way.

Job Specification

The Role will involve:

* Analyse, evaluate and challenge IT system requirements in collaboration with IT Business Analysts, IT Solution Designers and business stakeholders.

* Consult and advise senior business stakeholders on new business initiatives requiring IT solutions that span multiple technical components /systems to ensure a planned and cohesive IT development approach.

* Plan, direct and manage development of complex/large technical code changes in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, to build technical solutions to agreed estimates, time and quality requirements.

* Plan, direct and manage the handover of software into business-as-usual (BAU) operation aligning to the ITIL framework

* Analyse, evaluate and challenge end-to-end technical system designs to recommend changes to infrastructure, applications and / or products.

* Analyse, evaluate and challenge IT outsourced providers' proposals and deliverables, to ensure that all supplier-owned technologies and solutions are effective and meet IT recognised standards.

* Research, understand and champion new technical tools, processes and development methods to drive continuous improvement.

* Coach and mentor team members and colleagues on their technical skills and soft skills to improve their competency, quality and consistency of work.

Person Specification

The successful candidate should ideally be able to demonstrate:

* Strong leadership style and able to work both individually and as a strong team player with the ability to work collaboratively on a day-to-day basis

* Proven success in developing and delivering high quality, cost effective Data Extract and Load services in a large, complex, high availability, controlled environment.

* Previous experience in ETL solutions and solution design, in particular SSIS and the Microsoft BI stack. Business Objects experience would also be an advantage.

* Proficient SQL skills as a minimum

* Strong stakeholder management with the ability to gain trust and respect, influence and drive change with internal teams, suppliers and the business community.

* The ability to lead technical discussions and articulate highly technical information and concepts to a non-technical audience at all levels in the organisation in a clear and concise communication style.

* Able to work within Waterfall and Agile development environment and be flexible in approach to work environment and responsibilities.
