Application Support Specialist

Globally renowned and award winning Financial Services company based in Central Birmingham is looking for a highly experienced and passionate Application / Production Support Specialist to join their IT team at their Midlands office.

As the Application / Production Support Specialist you will work in partnership with trade floor support colleagues to manage the production environment of applications. You will develop expertise in the applications used by one or more lines of business and take ownership of the availability and quality of service provided.

This role has counterparts in other global regions providing support throughout business hours. On occasion weekend work will be required to assist with incidents and scheduled activities.

Key Responsibilities:

*Support and operate the applications used by the business

*Identify and respond to events impacting the production environment

*Manage production incidents including technical resolution and business / management communication

*Determine root cause of and remediate problems identified in the production environment

*Schedule and coordinate changes and releases for production applications

*Actively maintain and contribute to the application knowledgebase

*Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing

*Collaborate with partners in the infrastructure teams (Networks, UNIX, Wintel) and application developers.

*Drive continuous improvement in the environment, including monitoring, control and stability

Skills and Qualifications:

*Experience of providing application support in an enterprise environment, or a background in development or engineering will be considered

*Experience of working in critical production environments

*Technical background in UNIX (any flavour) and SQL

*Proven track-record of problem-solving in time-sensitive situations

*An excellent communicator with skills across a variety of partners and stakeholders

*A strong team player with an ability to work in a global environment

*Dedicated and dependable with an ability to operate under pressure

*Experienced in using monitoring and alerting technologies, e.g. Geneos, Nagios, Netcool

*Technical knowledge of messaging technologies e.g. Java Message Service (JMS) / Latency Busters Messaging (LBM) / KDB

*Experienced in working in an ITIL aligned support environment
