Purpose of the role

The Senior Electronic Engineer will be one of a team of engineers providing services in support of analogue, digital and computer based safety systems. The team is responsible for analysing Instrumentation and Control (I&C) equipment and proposing new and innovative solutions to enable the equipment to be operated for the life of the plant. The team has a diverse scope from requirements through to the design and maintenance of systems and products.

Key Responsibilities

* Detailed analysis of specific aspects of existing equipment to establish requirements for replacement or refurbishment.

* Helping to establish a number of candidate solutions.

* Supporting discussions of the proposed solutions with customer representatives to agree the optimum solution in terms of cost, timescale and ease of implementation.

* Liaison with suppliers regarding supply and support of third party equipment.

* Carrying out specified electronics design and development work.

* Occasionally supporting the installation and commissioning of equipment on the customer's site if needed.

* Supporting good customer relationships by presenting a professional engineering approach to the work.

* Supporting the team's engineering capabilities with individual skill and determination in order to provide appropriate customer solutions.

* Developing personal engineering capability across the safety system and instrumentation areas.

* Drafting concise and accurate technical reports, requirements specifications and drawings as required meeting the specific needs of the deployed equipment. Also able to justify the the chosen course of action.

* Providing technical support to the Team Leader and project manager for the proposed solutions offered to the customer.

* Peer review of technical reports, drawings and designs for safety, functionality and compliance with standards and statutory requirements.

* Designing, developing and testing solutions for the customer.

* To provide a technical lead in specified areas for the team and the company as a whole.

* To support opportunities for new work streams where appropriate.

* To carry out all work ethically, safely and in accordance with the relevant standards and best practice within the nuclear industry.

Experience required

* Strong Analogue electronics design experience in a highly regulated industry such as Nuclear, Rail, Marine, Oil and Gas or Aerospace

* Demonstrable ability in analogue and digital electronics using conventional logic families and programmable logic.

* Degree qualified in electrical and electronics engineering or similar relevant subject. Alternatively equivalent relevant experience will be accepted.

* Ability to communicate effectively within peer group and with manager or team leader.

* Able to offer mentoring to more junior engineers.

* Capable of producing good oral and written communications.

* Proven customer facing ability.

Experience of the following would be highly desirable;

* Obtaining CE compliance to include creation of Technical files, EMC harmonised standards and Low Voltage directive.

* Experience of capture and analysis of functional and non-functional requirements

* Experience of Environmental testing

* Knowledge of IEC 61508 or other applicable safety standard

* Experience of board level architecture, design development and planning

* Experience of reliability calculations and justification
