Our client, a large investment company is looking for multiple Application Architects to work in their solutions architecture practice of their Technology Strategy team.

The purpose of this role is to design and facilitate application and technology solutions that enable current and future business aspiration. The focus will be on supporting our Technology Change portfolio, which aims to provide core technology solutions that underpin the business and to manage technology obsolescence risk.

Although this will be primarily an architect role, the successful candidate must also be capable of stepping down into high level design detail where required.

The successful candidate must therefore demonstrate a strong background in application architecture and design, and should have a broad understanding of mainstream middleware and infrastructure technologies.

Key Responsibilities

* Working with the programme/project manager, provide architectural insight to shape the delivery plan based upon business risk and business value

* Working with business analysts to understand requirements, create solution architectures for the client that truly enable business strategic plans whilst being affordable and achievable.

* Lead technology change projects throughout the project lifecycle, including definition of work (change requests, statements of work), production of solutions architecture documents, oversight of activity and liaison with all key project personnel.

* Work closely with Infrastructure Designers to ensure infrastructure solutions meet the needs of the client

* Leverage industry analysis, such as technology research and benchmarks, to ensure focus and direction is in step with both the asset management industry and the wider technology market place such that divergence can be explained.

* Define or contribute to the definition of architecture principles, standards, reference architectures, and other architecture artefacts; and define solutions that adhere to these controls.

* Build and maintain trusted relationships with technology stakeholders

* Work closely with delivery teams (including 3rd parties) to ensure that design artefacts conform to architectural controls. Monitor technical progress of projects; evaluate the impact of any emerging changes and issues to ensure that appropriate processes and procedures are followed.

* Represent the interests of the client on internal and external boards and forums in relation to technologies.

* Identify opportunities for development of processes, procedures and engagement models to ensure on-going delivery of business value to the whole of the company.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

* Experience on several projects in a Solutions Architect role incorporating multiple technology platforms.

* Broad understanding of all aspects of solutions architecture and design including:

* Strong knowledge of current technical trends and techniques

* Experience of 3rd Party package or supplier integration projects.

* Application Architectures

* Middleware technologies

* Core infrastructure and operating systems

* Definition of current, interim and future state architectures

* Information security

* Non-functional aspects of solutions definition

* Operational Service Design

* Data and Application Integration patterns and best practice

Desirable

* Experience of working in an Investment/Asset Management environment.

* Experience of having worked in a merger type environment and in associated delivery programmes

* Experience of being the architectural lead on change programmes or portfolios

* Experience of working with senior level stakeholders (e.g. CIO, COO, etc.)

* Experience of migrating existing applications onto new technology platforms

* Experience of mainstream infrastructure technologies including : AIX, x86, IBM z/OS Mainframe, Oracle, SQL server, Data Storage, Network

* Experience of architecting solutions that span geographies.

* Experience of Application Portfolio Management.

* Microsoft .Net application architecture or development experience.

* Service Oriented Architecture and associated integration technologies.

* Experience of Websphere MQ, IBM Message Broker/Integration Bus or Ab Initio

* Experience of one or more architecture or design methodologies, tools and associated best practices (e.g. TOGAF, UML, Sparx Enterprise Architect)
