Divisional Assessor Trainer (Plant & Machinery)

Home/Field Based (Covering the East of England)

£25,407 - £29,891 Dependent on Experience Plus Vehicle

Our client is a charity that has been saving lives at sea for over 190 years. They are in the midst of fast-paced, transformational change that will allow them to save more lives than ever in new and creative ways.

As their range of equipment and sea-going vehicles rises, they are now seeking a Divisional Assessor Trainer to support plant and machinery use by their teams across the East of England.

Our client utilises some of the most advanced lifesaving equipment in the world. From their cutting-edge all-weather lifeboats to specifically designed tractor-style vehicles that can launch them, they require their teams to be experts in their use in order to maintain safety standards and operational efficiency.

As a Divisional Assessor Trainer, you will be tasked with ensuring that our client’s Plant and Launch Vehicle Operators and Mechanics are fully trained to enable their lifeboats to be launched and to operate effectively and safely.

As much of the equipment our client uses has been created purely for their use, they have an exacting set of criteria that their teams need to meet in order to be certified to use them, in all conditions. You will act as the key bridge to enable crews to work to our client’s competence framework for operational activities.

Taking guidance from the Senior Assessor Trainer, you will undertake a wide range of activities and assessments on various launch and recovery equipment. Your aim will be to help new crew members understand their role and responsibilities and ensure crews are prepared for residential courses at our client’s college.

Additionally, your role will involve:

- Helping new team members prepare for operational pass outs

- Providing training surrounding the Search and Rescue (SAR) unit’s mechanical and low voltage electrical systems

- Delivering formal assessments at lifeboats stations

Interested? If so, you will need:

- A D32/33 or A1 assessor qualification, training or equivalent qualification (equivalent to NVQ level 4, Qualified Plant Engineer)

- To be an experienced LANTRA Instructor with a Cat H Licence or equivalent

- A COSHH and/or H&SE qualification and experience

- Demonstrable evidence of plant operation and/or mechanical engineering

- Instructional experience

- Experience of competence based training systems

Please note, as this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy medical and eyesight standards.

Ideal Divisional Assessors Trainers will be LANTRA Tracked Vehicle Instructors and/or possess a BTEC Level 3 or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering. A qualification as a Diesel Engineering Mechanic or equivalent would also be beneficial but not essential.

Please note, the closing date for this role is the 20th August 2017.

Our client’s staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. They respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within their teams, and consider it essential to help them deliver a world-class lifesaving service. They are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, they also look for applicants who share their commitment to living their values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping work towards their goal of halving drowning in the UK and Ireland by 2024. This involves a growing commitment to preventative action, using expertise to work in partnership with communities locally, nationally and internationally to prevent drowning.
